Are we cursed?

Did someone at Free Republic drop a curse on us, that our cats and dogs are dropping like flies?

I lost Erin, my tabby male, in November and who knows how many other DU'ers are losing cats and dogs.

1. We just found a kitten with a broken tail a few weeks ago.

We took him to the vet (mobile vet) and his life has been saved.

He has a good home now with a 212 lb Saint Bernard who he hated at first but now sleeps next to.

3. I know, but...

It seems like the last few months we've been losing them at a rather high rate compared to other times of the year.

Oh dang it, Charlotte knows I'm thinking of Erin, so she jumped up on my lap just now and is snuggling and purring. :loveya:

6. We lost our Mouse at the end of November, also a male black tabby.

We miss our Mousie --and so does his brother, Simba -- but we are enjoying our new dog, Snowy.

9. My best friend rescued a cat

Took him to the Vet and paid to get him fixed. He's feral , and probably will not make a good pet, but she will keep him safe from the Coyotes.

10. It has been a rough year!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was wondering if it was just our rescue group!!! We've had unusually high losses this year.

So help me, at least some of it is related to the pet food, although I don't know how you go about proving that any more because the impact is much later than when the bag of food is consumed, the bag is thrown away, and a lot of life happens in between. We already learned to be careful about what we feed after the 2007 scare, but I still think there are issues with pet food that aren't being addressed. Unfortunately, we aren't in a position to make our own pet food either, or we would do that.

May 2010 be better for our companion animals - and us, too.
