and makes you the high bidder once again. Sometimes a seller will offer the item to the second highest bidder if the first does not come through with payment, or if they have another of the same thing to sell. In years past, they weren't supposed to do that, but lots of the rules have changed, so who knows?

I guess she just bid on it for fun, not ever intending to buy . I was told I could contact the second highest bidder to offer it to them for their final bid, or re-list it. The second highest bidder bought it. Whole process took about a month to complete.

Depending on the type of item, it might be worth contacting the seller to see if they have a second one for sale, or at least express an interest if somehow the high bidder falls through.
