Is this workout/exercise schedule too much for a beginner?
Edited on Tue Dec-29-09 09:26 PM by Lil Missy
4-5 times a week - workout routine including time on bicycle machines, treadmill, (starting at 15 minutes each) and 3 times a week weight machines prescribed by staff counselors, i.e. shoulders, legs, back, abdomen, chest)

Mon & Wed
Formula for Fitness - 45 minutes (stability balls, weights, developing core muscles, flexibility, bands and a modified version of Pilates for those that cannot easily get up and down from the floor.)

Osteoball Training - 45 minutes (bone strengthening exercises)

Tues & Thurs
Better Balance - 60 minutes (A little more challenging to prevent falls and improve your balance with moderate to higher leg strengthening exercises to keep you strong and stable! You keep track of your progress with the help and guidance of an instructor. Better balance is for individuals who would like to maintain balance.)

Sit and Fit - 45 minutes (This beginner level class is designed to improve joint range of motion, increase flexibility, maintain muscle strength, improve posture, balance and increase endurance. Exercises are done from a chair. This class is offered free to anyone in the community.)

I want to add 1 hour a week each for Ballroom Beginners, Jazz Dance Beginner, and Line Dance Beginner.

Am I biting off more than I can chew??

Edit: add class descriptions

1. Depends on the beginner.
Although if you have staff counselors, they should be able to advise you as to what you can/can't/shouldn't do. I think that what you've scheduled is an ambitious undertaking, and will benefit you a great deal. However, in the beginning, know your limits and listen to your body's feedback.

Good luck to you!

5. Thanks. I'm thinking the staff might discourage me from the dance classes right off the bat.
But new classes start in April, I could take more then.

I decide back and forth, back and forth, all the time.

3. I would do less first and add more later
That way when you decide you only want to exercise 10 hours a week instead of 11 hours a week you won't feel like a failure. :P

6. That's true. A goal set too high is a setup for failure. (psychologically)
