Poll question: DU doggie people: What looks more comfortable?
I am hopefully getting my little pup spayed this weekend if there is space (a free mobile spay/neuter clinic)
and was wondering what collar to get her

comfy cone

or

2. Of those two, the Comfy Cone is better. BUT there's a downside.
Because it's not as rigid as the usual collar, it can get turned "inside out" fairly easily (meaning it flops over the shoulders rather than the head.

The inflatable collar is uncomfortable over a period of several hours. As we know, dogs spend a lot of time napping. On their stomach, it puts pressure on the throat. On their side, it causes an odd alignment of the spine where the head lolls over from a 4 or 5" height.

3. Comfy Cone looks like it may be easier for the dog to rest its head. nt

4. I've never needed one for a spay or neuter
but our Mommakitty is currently wearing a homemade cardboard cone of shame for a strange rash/lesion she won;t leave alone on her leg. I can tell you that soft collar sure as hell wouldn't have worked with her.

If you are short of money you CAN make your own. They hate them and stagger around, run into things for a few hours but eventually get used to them.

11. When dogs are bored they will lick
one of their legs until they get a sore on it. My dog has done it several times and we had to put medication on it and bandage it both times to get it well. I feel sorry for her but I'm old and disabled and she is old and disabled. We are both bored, I just don't lick my leg. If only I could teach her to read and type, or to enjoy watching tv. :eyes:

5. I know my Lab would have liked the inflatable collar
He didn't mind having something around his neck as much as he didn't like not having his peripheral vision. He never did quite figure out how big the collar was and he was always bumping in to stuff.

13. My little cocker cross is so short
if we put a big enough cone on her she gets caught up, dragging the cone around she can't eat. Her neck won't reach the food bowl. But, if we put a small enough cone on her that it doesn't drag she can fold in the center and lick anyway. Our vet says "just trust the dog". But, She has confounded her (the Vet) more than once. If we return the cone it's no charge, Cash refund. In other words, I'm no help at all....
