What is the first song you listened to in 2010?
I think "Auld Lang Syne" shouldn't count. Besides that, what is the first song you heard in 2010? I can't say yet because it's only 9:07 p.m. here.

New Year's is still 50 minutes away for me but I am positive I will be listening to that album in its entirety shortly thereafter.

6. Two points:
On behalf of Scottish people everywhere, screw you and your hating on Auld Lang Syne. You're just mad that your song of unintelligable gibberish lyrics written in an archaic language isn't the New Year's song everywhere. Why is ours? Because nobody does New Years like the Scots and you all like to emulate complete and utter dominance and perfection...there is no better New Years celebration than Scotland's Hogmanay.

Two, it totally was Auld Lang Syne. Anything else would be an abomination.

7. I think you misunderstood my intentions.
It wasn't meant to be a slam on "Auld Lang Syne" or Scottish culture or Scottish people. I'm sorry if you took it that way but that was not my intention and I think you jumped the gun and overreacted. My reasoning was that if I didn't rule that out song specifically, everyone would reply with "Auld Lang Syne" because that is traditionally played at the stroke of midnight in the U.S. In that case this thread would be far less interesting because all the replies would be "Auld Lang Syne" and there would be no point of replying. The point of this thread is what song was the first one you heard or listened to in 2010, either one you selected or happened to hear in a concert or TV show. It's not meant to demean "Auld Lang Syne" at all.

13. No worries...
I was kidding around. Not in the least serious. I'm so never-serious here that I forget that anybody might ever take my faux belligerence seriously. It's my sense of humor, somewhat anarchic hooliganism for satirical ends.

(Also the first song I heard was probably New York, New York actually.)

Last three songs were:

Jump Around House of Pain
Imagine Joan Baez
Paradise City Guns N' Roses

2010 looks like a good year just based on the song titles. :P

16. Gloria Gaynor "I Will Survive," kindly referred to me by cwydro.
Happily, I took back his fucking key and what I wish for the new year is just willpower so I can stop reading his blog where he shits all over me day after day.

 I am definitely a PITA but I'm not a complete nutjob, nor am I a threat to his physical/mental safety. I just restored my old and ridiculous profile on plentyoffish and feel sick doing it.

BUT HAPPY NEW YEAR! And I mean that, DUers.

I was playing with a salsa band tonight.

Sadly no tequila was forthcoming for the musicians, but I'm trying to make up for that at home now with some small batch bourbon.

26. "Is That ll There Is?"
Not really, but your question reminded me of many years ago when my girlfriend
and I decided NOT to go out for New Year's Eve, but to spend it quietly with
another couple.
By 11:30, we were bored to tears and raced out to the nearest bar. We found a
bunch of middle-aged folk literally crying in their beers while listening to
downbeat Frank Sinatra songs from the jukebox. The bartender approached us and
VERY cheerily said, "Cheer up, folks!!! (we HAD been very cheery) It doesn't get
amy better than this!!!"
We thanked her for her time, left without ordering, and raced about a mile away
to a total dive bar and had the most uproariously fun time possible with those
folk.
So uproariously good that I don't remember a single song -- though I do remember
dancing on top of the bar.
