1. I just saw it today
Liked it very much. Best ending I remember in a long time. It was worth it to see it in 3D, too. :-)

2. Hi, Hawkeye!
I saw it before and might get to see it again tomorrow--both with 3-D glasses. If I see it tomorrow again, it may well be with a group that includes a 93-year-old man, a WW II vet.

3. I saw it on Wednesday in 3D
It's incredible in 3D, but I can't wait till I go back to my place in Maryland after tomorrow where I'll be near IMAX theaters. I SOOO want to see it in IMAX 3D.

15. Avatar in imax = next step in the evolution of cinema.
Avatar on standard screen = cartoon with predictable plot and bad dialogue + silly sun glasses.

4. The standout character for me was Neytiri .
Edited on Sat Jan-02-10 11:27 PM by AllenVanAllen

She was simply amazing from the first time she's on screen. I can't wait for the DVD to see what went into the making of Avatar.

Here's 5 interviews with some of the artists who brought us the world of Pandora.
http://io9.com/5420143/5-designers-reveal-secrets-of-james-camerons-avatar

And a Q&A with director James Cameron.

http://movieblog.ugo.com/movies/camerons-twenty-year-journey-to-pandora

And I'm all for the main message of the film. Beings' deep connection to nature and other's disconnection from it. It's kind of a reminder to us, that we aren't going to find the answer to the problem of our dwindling natural resource anywhere else but here.
Like Carl Sagan said "Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand."

13. I haven't seen it. But I'm going to go ahead and guess the spoilers.
Kind hearted everyman good guy who's just trying to get by in life decides to join the Army, probably to resolve some misfortunate conflict.

So he's off to fight the smurfs under the command of some General Custer/General Patton crazy jerk racist military officer.

Using some explanation involving DNA, Our Hero becomes one of the Smurfs. He's there to get the Smurf's magic mineral that makes their mountains float in the air. Because when you have spaceships that travel between planets and artificial gravity, what you really need is floating mountains. Maybe they want to turn the Smurfs into gold or something.

Anyway, Our Hero finds himself in the Enchanted Forest where he meets lots of interesting cartoon animals and things. He meets and falls in love with some beautiful Smurfette. Who probably is the Chiefs daughter and saves his life somehow, Pocahontas style.

Our Hero decides to help the Smurfs, which is going to be tough because his real body is still stuck with the bad guy humans.

There's some cheap conflict when Smurfette finds out Our Hero is an agent of the Bad Humans and gets mad at him, and doesn't realize how much he loves her.

Our Hero becomes the Great Pale Blue Hope of the Smurfs.

There's a big war, where the Smurfs win Ewok-style.

Bad General Custer gets killed very dramatically, probably just before he's about to kill Our Hero or Smurfette or Papa Smurf.

Probably a scene where you think he's dead and then, boo, he's still alive but gets killed again.

Good guys win.

Good guys use their true love magic powers to make Our Hero a Smurf happily ever after.

Am I close?

6. About a 3 for story/originality, but a 9 or 10 visually.
The story was a re-hash of shopworn characters and situations and cliches, and a lot of holes in the plot and stuff they didn't even bother explaining.

Other opportunities were missed.

But lots of nice alien boobs. And I found the visual effects to be flawless and often impressive, although for 3-D effects, the did have a lot of stuff floating around in the foreground, which got a bit distracting once in a while.

This will make tons of money.

7. I saw a bootleg copy of it
Unfortunately, all the subtitles for the Navi language were in German on the bootleg, so I still have no idea what they were saying. Though the overall message of the movie came through loud and clear.
