I think Norm MacDonald is doing performance art at the Bob Saget Roast
Edited on Sun Jan-03-10 05:20 AM by CreekDog
this is easily the *worst* performance I've ever seen him or even anybody on one of these roasts do.

i'll bet half the audience could do a better job.

it's so bad, they are laughing at how bad the jokes are. which makes me wonder if it's not on purpose.

though i give him credit for saying something sincerely classy at the end (not something you expect from MacDonald).

maybe the point was to play against type?

(on edit: I take it all back now that Gilbert Gottfried has done his set...) :wtf:

1. Of course he was

You could tell cause only a few people in the crowd were laughing and the comics on stage were laughing their ass off. I thought it was great! He kind of did another version of that routine on Conan a few months ago.

Edit: Ladies and Gentleman This man is for the birds!

2. I'm sure you're right --he was reading from index cards he held!

I almost think he was roasting Bob Hope, rather than Bob Saget.

(oh I like that one, I'm gonna write that one down. )

He was absolutely fantastic doing those terrible jokes with a straight face. Cauliflower is fucking hilarious.

6. He's so contrary about *everything* he does.
Hands down my favorite Republican comic. Maybe because he made a sitcom about working in a social services office. He was also probably the best SNL Update anchor, in part because he worked against the format the whole time.

7. My friend told me part of the act was that MacDonald didn't get bleeped at all during his set
not only was he probably the only comedian not to get bleeped during his set, but apparently his club act is one of the raunchiest around.

so not only was he playing against type, he was also making fun of the format by showing how edgy you can actually be without getting censored.
