1. One of my favorite albums growing up

"Eat It", a double-LP released by Humble Pie, had three sides
of studio material and a fourth consisting of songs from a
live show, including this song that I'm providing a link to
(my favorite of theirs), Ike and Tina Turner's "Black Coffee".

Some rock-and-roll singers (especially metal like Judas Priest,
etc) sing SO high and SO effortlessly that they always made me
wonder if there's such a thing as "negative testicularity".
.
Steve Marriott here (also part of the group, Small Faces) is
one such performer. But whereas I just can't listen to heavy
metal vocalists for too long, I could play Marriott's music
over and over and over again ad infimitum.

Here's a version of "Black Coffee". I bet both Ike and Tina
have seen this and had the same comment.

Those are "The Blackberries" singing/clapping/fingerpopping along
with him. Backup trios had the BEST names. Ray Charles had
"The Rae-lettes"... Bette Midler had "The Har-lettes"). My dream,
when I had a band, was to add a 3-pc horn section and a backup
trio of enormously powerful female vocalists in purple choir robes.
I even had the name (inspired by Bette) -- "The Strum-pettes".

2. I loved Marriot's singing - I could ALMOST get his range, but just almost...

I found the Wikipedia article on his life, and I was very saddened by the misery and tragedy of it.

He was an amazing singer and he had some great bands behind him.
