I know it's wrong to hate, but... |

Sometimes someone does something SO heinous...
End of rant. That is all. Sorry.

Suffice it to say it was terrible...an act taken against those who don't deserve it. Some people will eat their young.

They say hate puts dents in your karma, but you're right; some things (and people) are too awful to not hate.

9. disagree with you about it being wrong to hate, its a perfectly human thing to do |
|
sometimes its a needed emotion in order to survive, in real life all the kumbaya in the world sometimes isnt enough. So hate with a heat comparable to the sun and dont eat yourself up about it...

16. Ok, seriously, I've spent some time in my life thinking about the diff. between anger & hate |
|
But when you see a deep injustice, when you see someone has intentionally inflicted this injustice... maybe the time isn't quite right to make those sorts of distinctions. Anger, I'm arguing, is natural, a reaction. Hate is a choice. But really, in the heat of a moment I don't think you need to make that kind of hair splitting.
I don't know the situation, so of course I'm imagining the worst. But right now just be pissed off. Or just be all huggy with the kids who've been injured (if I'm reading this right).
I had a friend a number of years ago who found out that his daughter, then 16 or 17, was being molested--I'm guessing probably also raped--by his ex-wife's new husband. He was telling me about this a couple of years later, mind you. My first reaction was pretty typical; I said, "Damn, Bill, you must have been ready to kill that bastard." But then what Bill said blew me away.
He said, "You know, right then I didn't need to be angry. My daughter didn't need revenge, she needed someone to look out for her and take her some place to be safe and loved."
Until he said that, I didn't realize what an evolved guy Bill was. I'm not saying that that's the way you oughta react. Feel your feelings; they're more than justified if someone's being an asshole to your kids. I'm just saying you have a range of options on how to play this out--probably more than you think--even if you can't effect the main thing that's hurt them. This may be one of those moments when your kids get to learn what unconditional love means.
I hope next week turns out better for you, whatever may come tonight.

This isn't as awful as what you describe, thankfully. But they (kids...adults now) have just had a parent so irreparably hurt them and their relationship with that parent. A deliberate act that can only be described as a cruel attack. Life will never be quite the same for them.

I really HATE David Gregory's interview style. He's such a binary thinker with his "If you don't agree with A, then you must believe B" bullshit.

but as in everything, moderation is the key, IMO. I think you're being very level-headed about this (whateve it is), and since kids are involved, that makes most sense.
