“Love—even pathological love—is incredibly powerful. We talk about people who are addicted to alcohol, people who are addicted to sex… but the biggest human addiction is love. It’s the master addiction that nothing can replace.” This observation early into talhotblond sets the stage for a surprising true-crime tale of identity, obsession, and deceit. Thomas Montgomery, an unassuming machinist in upstate New York with a troubled marriage, meets teenage Jessie (a.k.a. “talhotblond”) online. Montgomery tells her that he is Tommy, an 18-year-old boy on his way to Marine boot camp. Their relationship quickly evolves into cybersex and an engagement. Eventually Jessie discovers that Tommy is really 47-year-old Thomas and confirms it through one of his co-workers. When she embarks on another online relationship with Thomas’ co-worker, all three of their real and online lives begin to collide. With sharp psychological insight and an ingenious approach to narration, director Barbara Schroeder weaves interviews together with transcripts of the three lovers’ online conversations to tell the story of a love triangle in which the lovers never meet face to face, but one person ends up dead, another goes to prison, and the families of all three are changed forever.

This really got me thinking.
It's really easy for people to become lost here on the internet.
It's easy for one to be fake,to put on a false front and it's easy for someone who may be yearning for something to read more in to something than there is.People see what they want and need to see sometimes I think
I mean look at peoples myspace/facebook profile pictures for instance.Who doesn't use a picture that isn't them looking their best or one that they took years before when they were thinner? Everyone has at least one presentable picture.
But worse than that,How easy would it be to grab a random picture in a google search and create a new handsomer, sexier, cooler you?
Hell,Even on DU we don't use our real names,we create persona's.
I look nothing like Brando,I'm a 43 year old guy who needs to drop a few lbs. and would give anything to be half as cool as Sky Masterson.
I also thought about Thomas.
Forget that he is an idiot with anger problems and a killer, but he was incredibly lonely and here came this talhotblond and he fell for her, lied to her constantly, she lied too. None of this was real except in the mind of Thomas, and he did something incredibly stupid. What Jessie did wasn't a crime but it was almost as bad.
This documentary should be seen by all.
