Study shows that adults get more completely unidentifiable shit on their bodies as they age. |
|
I can't post a link because I read it in a hard copy newspaper a little while ago...I forget the name of the paper.
Anyway, the article was stating that an exhaustive study was performed showing that every year we get older is met with increased exclamations of "Holy fucking fuck, what the fuck is this thing? Do we have a hand held mirror"?
The study stated that these "things" can be found anywhere on the body, but most are found in the buttocks, thigh, groin, feet and head area.
Most worrisome is the fact that medical professionals generally have no idea what in the hell these things are.
95% of study participants questioned their doctors as to the nature of these things. The most common reply was "fuck if I know".

21. I had some ugly thing growing on my ankle |
|
went to a GP who had no idea what it was. I did some research of my own and it appeared to be a ganglion which is described on medicine.net as "a sac-like swelling or cyst formed from the tissue that lines a joint or tendon." Supposedly they're an early sign of arthritis (YAY! :-( ). After being a nuisance for many years, it appears to have gotten tired of disfiguring my right ankle. Got one on my pinky finger that popped after a few months, and thankfully has not come back.

Listened thru his stethescope, thumped me like a melon, said "Sounds like shit!" I'm thinkin "12 years of college for this?". 'Specially when my friend, the ICU nurse, correctly diagnosed me with one question the night before "What color is all that stuff you're coughin' up? Green, that's walkin' penumonia..."

5. I worked with a lot of doctors. You evidently don't have to be smart |
|
to graduate from medical school, just have to be able to memorize a lot of stuff. My "doctor" is now a nurse-practitioner.

9. Actually, he was a good doctor, for other people |
|
Absolutely wonderful for my Dad. All my doctors that I've actually liked, seeem to have issues - my pediatrican OD'd on Demerol, the orthopedist was a drunk, and the best PCP I've ever had was fired by his group practice for taking too much time with the paitents. And the wizard of a spine surgeon who the orthopaedist sent me to was a brilliant surgeon, and otherwise a lousy doctor. He Is teaching surgery now, which is probably the best outcome. I like ARNP's - I prefer them to my current PCP. Big props for "H", who was an ER nurse for 25 years before she got the ARNP ticket. Found me a medicine which fixed an issue that had stumped the ER, my PCP, and another ARNP in the office. And "R", who actually LISTENS.

13. The toughest part of medical school is getting in. |
|
Once your in, it is almost impossible to fail out. It makes the medical school "look bad" if they fail out medical students. I was a graduate student that took a lot of medical school classes. I was amazed at the lengths the medical school went to to make sure that all of the students passed. The graduate school sure as hell did not care if it failed the grad students.
"What do you call the person who graduated last from their medical school class?"
"Doctor"
:-)

Of course he did mis-diagnose one. He said it was "nothing". A week later it exploded white goo all over my finger.

But if I did, I'd sure as hell insist on finding out! :scared:
However, I was privy to a conversation earlier today between two guys, and the younger one was complaining of the exact thing you describe in your post. And this guy is only in his 20s... x(

I'm only 21, and my body is already fucked up. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I'm 40, 50, 60, and possibly even 70.
Eeeeeeeeeeep O.O Tell me there's SOMETHING good about aging!
