I give Wells Fargo a "Terrible" for holiday spirit (and general fairness). My account history was flawless until last week when I bounced a check. It was my fault - I'll take the hit. However, the combination of some smaller transactions already in the system and deducting the OD fees, it ballooned into $245. I had everything covered the next day. I called and asked very nicely if they could waive some of the fees, because $245 is excessive and goes far beyond the expense of covering my account for a day. I got a series of polite people telling me "No. The computer won't let me. That's just our policy." Well, now I have this nagging sense of injustice and I am venturing online to express my dissatisfaction until that feeling has been assuaged. Thanks for reading.

7. Send a letter via online |
|
And mention that punk -ass supervisor. Just sign up for online banking if you haven't already done so.
Usually they will waive like half of that charge. Wells told their stockholders they anticipate a 35% increase in their "bank Fee" revenue stream BTW.

3. I've had some success in getting them to waive overdraft fees |

Like you, I had one error that cascaded into multiple O/Ds due to ATM use, other small purchases. They waived half of the $35 charges.
If I were you I'd challenge them, especially since your record is otherwise spotless. (And unless they're the Chairman of the Board, there is always a supervisor above them).
Good luck.

6. Here's what worked for me |
|
It was a cable company, not a bank, but after I realized they weren't going to relent on what I thought were unfair charges, I wrote a letter to my Congressman and both Senators telling them how I was treated and arguing that they needed to be regulated tighter. I sent a copy to the company. Within a few days someone called me and, after strongly pointing out that they had every right to charge me, said that for the purpose of 'good will' for a 'good customer' they were waiving all of the charges. It also works to send a commplaint to whichever federal agency does have oversight authority since often the company will realize it's going to cost them more to answer the charges than to write it off.

8. Time to transfer to a Local CU |
|
Wells is a sucky Borg and one of the banks directly responsible for the conflagration and destruction of MY bank.
A Credit Union, of which there are many in your town, does not profit by virtue of their charter. Any excess money at the end of the fiscal year is returned to the shareholders.
Screw Wells, Bof A, Chase, Citi, and PNC. Go local, keep your $ in your community.

I probably would have told the bank to choke on its fee assessments as well, when I closed the account.

12. Write a letter to the President of the corp |
|
...detailing your grievance, and asking him/her to direct the letter to the proper person since the locals told you that there "is no one above them," and copy the local schmuck.
Bet they call you back, real polite-like, with a much more reasonable solution, in the near future.

13. I kind of like Wells Fargo. Not because of or in spite of the fees. |
|
They royally goofed up my account once, also. (Not my fault). But because they have a museum both here and in San Francisco which has all kinds of stage coaches, big and small, and other artifacts from the early days of this state, and the early days of their existence and photos, old photos. One branch has a huge, I mean huge, 6 or 8 feet by 10 or 12 feet photo of an old stage coach. I like historical or old artifacts. dc

15. Working for Wells Fargo sucks, too. |

Far and away the most stressful, least rewarding job I've ever had. Came home every night with a stress headache and a nightmarish dread of having to go there the next day. I was putting my wife through school, and we needed every penny we could get. But when my wife graduated and started making good money, I was out of there. Coming home from my last day at WF, I put my 'happy' music in the car stereo, cranked it, and took a victory lap!... B-)

If the supervisor said that
1. "There's no one above me to talk to."
and
2. "The computer won't let me change it."
then ask to speak to the computer, because obviously it's in charge.
A big chunk of the daily processing done by financial firms is the correction of systematic errors that occur during nightly transactions and the manual processing of the day before. If the good people @ Wells Fargo don't have some means of effecting manual overrides when their system fucks up, then Wells Fargo is the most dangerous in the world to keep your money.

On your ATM card. The local branch is limited on changes to accounts. Corporate may be more forgiving.
