Poll question: In 107 years, Alabama has NEVER beaten Texas in college football. |
|
Okay, they've only played each other 8 times in the history of two of the most historic football programs in America, and they did tie once, but still, it's interesting.

1. Who voted for Boise St.? |
|
Both Boise and TCU play in very weak conferences and are good at getting up for A game here and there but put them in the SEC or even the Big 12 and they would be a 9-3 or 8-4 team every year. More like Texas Tech or Ole Miss than Texas or Bama.

there are fewer people who care about either one. I don't know.
Threads on game nights get fired up sometimes. I remember watching the USC-Texas game and posting here. There was a lively thread going on then. When Young made that final touchdown, I posted that my whole apartment complex was going crazy, and another DUer posted that hers was, too. We compared notes, and you guessed it, we lived about two buildings apart. :) Funny thing is we've been great DU friends but we've never met IRL.

You're right, not too many people can pull off burnt orange. I know I can't.
Hook 'Em! Here's to hopefully another weird night of firecrackers at the complex. Even though I'm not there anymore, I still laugh at how we found out we lived in the same place. :)
on edit: I took out the name of the complex just in case it was TMI.

We dominated Florida in the SEC Champ. Texas had to rely on the kindness of replay to get there. If Boise should play anyone it would be Bama.

24. No we can't have a playoff, then people would just complain about who got invited |
|
In the basketball tourney you play two games a week.
So a 64 team tourney takes a little more than two weeks to play.
If football teams could schedule games Thursday - Saturday then we could have a playoff.
One day to rest. They're young. They can handle it.
Who needs a whole damn week off?

27. Yeah, with playoffs, you go clear into the middle of January |
|
Waitasecond.
It doesn't have to be 64 teams, but it seems to me that eight teams is plenty. This year, you would have had Texas, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, Cincinnati, TCU, and Boise State. I don't know that anyone would squawk about any of those teams not deserving their shot (and it's an unusual year in that there were five undefeated teams). "Bubble" teams would know that two losses without winning a major conference would pretty much eliminate their chance of going to the playoff.
Another added advantage would be that championship playoff teams would play more like they do during the regular season. For example, with several weeks to prepare, Boise State always seems to come up with a bag full of gadget plays that they don't have time to develop during the regular season. Entertaining, but is it reflective of the sort of team and season Boise State had? Debatable.
The other thing that might happen is that teams with a chance of going to the national championship don't schedule their non-conference opponents like North Texas or Florida International or Appalachian State. Contenders would feel more secure scheduling some real non-conference teams for home-and-home two-year commitments, which would make the regular season a little more interesting, too.

33. No, start the playoff two weeks after the last regular season game |
|
As it is, Texas and Alabama are playing tonight after not playing for some six weeks, and both teams look kind of rusty tonight. Let's say the last "regular season" games were on November 28. Start the playoffs December 12, semi-finals on the 19th, then have the championship on the 2nd of January. You could still hold the bowl games for the also-rans during that time, but what a build up for the final, huh? I think it would also sustain a lot of excitement for the other bowl games for the time off in-between.

No need to extend it into mid January.
The other bowls would be just as meaningful as they are today.
