Alabama has a Mardi Gras in Mobile... and Texas beaches are full of coeds during Spring Break

Oh well

25. It was perfect, I tell you...
...asking the question: which state is more backward?

(Edited for obvious reasons, and lamented for more poetic ones.)

7. Why did you remove "Alabama is hopelessly stuck in the past... and Texas is full of Texans"
It was such an eloquent line.

:sarcasm:

22. Anyway, Texas isn't all that full of Texans.
At least in the cities, most people you talk to were born someplace else.

9. Takes the fun out of the BCS bowl, doesn't it, when you could care less about either team?

10. I know
My two year stint in Austin really gave me a horrible impression about UT students and Texas in general, and the time I spent in Alabama made me understand three things:

- I was lucky to be stationed in Virginia at the time

- The road trips to Atlanta helped me to see that it was a really nice town

- Now I know why my great grandparents fled Alabama ninety years ago

I don't even know if I'm even going to bother to watch the game.

12. I'm a 'Bama fan, since my son went there, but you can't top 6th Street in Austin for fun
My son is in an enviable position for tonight's game. He graduated from 'Bama in May, but is attending grad school at Texas.

He says either outcome is OK with him.

18. How can anyone not love Austin?
I think people in both states are nice (for the most part), but Austin is the heart of Texas fun. Incredible live music any night of the week, tons of nightclubs, beautiful hill country and lakes for summer fun, I think 50% of our population is stoned most of the time, we're crazy liberals, we celebrate Eeyore's birthday by beating on drums and covering our bodies with paint, women can go topless without getting arrested, fun music festivals, a kick ass "Keep Austin Weird" ad campaign to support local business, a fun mix of college students, artists, and geeks...we are all about the fun down here.

19. Let's say that I had too many run-ins with assholes in Austin for my taste
The weird thing is that I had to fall in with some ex-pat New Yorkers to meet some nice people who lived there

And oh yeah... I'm not much of a drinker and I've never smoked dope. That right there put me out of place.

20. Every city has their fair share of assholes
I'm sorry you ran into ours, but I hope you wouldn't think of actually judging all of us based on the few.

21. Galveston has a Mardi Gras, too. And Alabama has a pretty decent spring break.
The real distinction might be between Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffet. :)
