And Coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant.
You should see it.

2. It's amazing and almost unbelievable that this was in my lifetime..
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 08:08 PM by S n o w b a l l
My ex FIL, who is black, played pro baseball in the early '60s and he used to tell me stories of how they had to stay in different hotels, couldn't have meals with the white players when on the road, the discrimination from the fans.

He went on to become one of the highest paid executives in MLB. All of this in my lifetime. Makes me feel really old, but how fortunate I am to have witnessed the progress.

4. I grew up in Birmingham in the 40s and 50s.
I know how it was.
We still have a way to go, but we sure have come a long way since those bad ol' days.

3. Great film. I grew up idolizing him.
He's still the first name I think of when people ask about the greatest coaches ever.

I didn't really know that story. I know Bryant had played some role in desegregation, but never heard it spelled out like that. Thanks for the post.
