I am eating a bag of small bag Funyuns, howdy from frozen Austin. |
|
I think the little pond will really freeze over tonight.
My cousin and I were busy taking care of the cows, bringing out more hay.
The pole barns are now fully stocked with hay.
I need more then a little bag of Funyuns.
So how is everyone doing.

1. Fine. It's +3 now, going to be -11 tonight. |
|
But that's pretty normal for here.

2. I just checked the temp. outside and it is about 27, it is colder out in the country. |
|
It will get colder tonight and tomorrow before warming up a little.
Might get into the low 60's soon.
The cows sure don't like it.
Just a question, how do y'all handle your water pipes when it gets below freezing.
Here it is either turn the water off or let the water drip.

4. Most houses here are well-insulated enough that the pipes don't freeze. |
|
I did have one freeze in my kitchen once when it got really cold; it froze because it was against an outside wall inside the cupboard under the sink, so it wasn't exposed to the warmth from the rest of the room. So I just slipped a pice of styrofoam in there to insulate the cupboard and never had the problem again.

8. Our pipes back in Houston are all new and insulated, I did the work myself. |
|
Same thing here at the farm, worth the work and the little money.

6. I will admit it, I need my Funyuns fix. |
|
Now I do prefer real onion rings but I need my fix.
It is a small bag.
Funyuns are evil.

9. Am sitting by the wood stove, it feels real good. |
|
I only have to go out one more time tonight.
Working with the hay warmed us up a little.
The cows were given us evil looks, they wanted to be in the pole barns.

13. There are only 15 cows at the moment, more to come in the spring. |
|
The pole barns are sort of warm, the buildings have 3 sides.
We put plastic on the front, left space for a door.
We put some hay on ground also, the cows were happy to go back in the barns.
Plenty of food and water.
These are very important cows.
There still is air flow but not as much.
It will warm up soon.

11. Keep them pipes warm. |
|
Just checked your weather on the computer, y'all were cold.
Stay warm.
I haven't been this cold since I went to Washington in January for the anit-war protest years ago.
The high was 20 that day, it was even colder when we got there the night before.
Our thin Texan blood was not ready for that kind of cold.
We are bred for the heat.
