Should I see Avatar in 3-D?
I may be going to "Avatar" on Sunday.

The 3-D version.

Anyone have any previous experiences with it?

3. The only way to see it is in 3-D - IMAX
If it wasn't for the experience that the 3-D gives you, it would just be a man meets alien-shooting and kissing-save the world movie. The characters are very much archetypes, and the science almost works. Kinda reminiscent of Stargate meets Dances with Wolves. Only in a really kick-ass jungle setting.

Enjoy your visit to the planet.

7. I can't see 3D movies.
At best I see double, and it is very unpleasant.

I'm uncivilized too, so I guess it's no big deal.

Actually....the (Joke) saying came from a 1930's ad for Rolls Royce "Anybody who doesn't drive a Rolls is uncivilized"
:) :) :)

41. The glasses they give you now for this aren't like they were two years ago -
Vertigo is not as bad a problem. I used to get vertigo and headaches with the old style of 3-D. These are just like polarized glasses.

YMMV, of course. And there are roller-coaster like scenes that could induce sea-sickness even in 2D.

39. You probably have one normal optic nerve and the other a weak one.
I have the same problem. Whenever I watch a 3D movie I end up just getting half the experience. Most people have a dominant eye but some of us have it to the extreme and mainly see out of one of them.

8. The only way to see it is to dump as much money as possible into Cameron's pockets
If that means spending $13 to see it at IMAX, then dammit you'd better do it!

9. Absolutely!
I'd never seen anything like it when I saw "Avatar" in 3D for the first time. I've seen it once again, and I'm still itching to see it at least once more! The 3D is definitely worth the extra money.

10. The movie's not that ostentatious about the 3Dness
That was a plus, IMO - it made it more immersive without doing the whole "OMG 3D HOLEEEE CRAP" schtick that some other movies playing with it used. I stopped noticing the effect a little into the movie (unless I was actively looking for them), which at least to me suggested they were doing a good job of using it.

11. Yes
Even the haters admit it is a very "visual" movie. I put the word visual in quotation marks because I believe all cinema should be visual. Anyway, the special effects are amazing & the 3D adds even more to the experience (IMHO).

13. Saw the 3-D IMAX this afternoon. Yes, see it in 3D.
3D added to the enjoyment. I'm kind of afraid when I see it again
on regular DVD it won't measure up.

"Dances With Wolves" plus "Ferngully" minus a decent plot and character development.

26. I get that people are easily distracted by expensive CGI,
so much so that they forget that there is more to a movie than just special effects.

I'd rather watch Dances With Wolves or Ferngully. They didn't cost $300 million to make, and they don't have legions of Cameron acolytes attacking people who point out flaws.

20. You should see it drunk - the best 3-D experience of all.
That way, you can laugh obnoxiously at all the glaring plot holes, and make snide comments about all the shallow, one-dimensional characters.

No, it's not the greatest story ever filmed, but how many are? Enjoy it for what it's worth.

33. Yes, absolutely.
I just saw it this evening. It was a last minute thing. A friend asked my brother and I to go see it with her. I didn't even realize it was 3D. When they handed me the glasses at the ticket counter I thought "Great, 3D. I hope I don't get a headache. 3D's just a gimmick to get people to pay more for a movie."

Okay, maybe it is just a gimmick but damn, I have never seen 3D like this. Maybe it's just because I haven't seen any recent 3d flicks but my past experience with 3D was things occasionally leaping out of the screen at you. This was different. Sure, there were things floating out in front of the screen at times, but it also had real depth. The 3D is amazing.

I'll admit I do have a slight headache now, but it was worth it.

34. Unless it's true Imax, on a 50ft. high screen, you're wasting your money/
Only see it in digital 3-d, that's the way it was made to be seen.

that said the 2D version was okay too. however to be honest it really was "Dances with Wolves" but instead of Native Americans it was Blue Cat-Like Alien people on a different planet.
