. just a few years before he died. It was the first of two shows and he just seemed tired and worn out. He had about a 12-pc band/orchestra behind him (all but one of them seemed to be 18-25 years old). He had three of them do soloes (a young bass player and trumpet player and the 60-something sax player). They were all incredible. . I've since learned enough about his habits, even at that advanced age, to realize now that he may not have met up with his connection in our town yet. One of the local music critics saw his second show and said he had been a bundle of barely-contained dynamite (or something). , But, even tired and off his game, he was still an incredible showman. .
