Question for baseball trivia buffs: who is the most (unintentionally) walked batter in MLB history?
I don't want to know who was walked a lot by pitchers who didn't want to give up a big hit, my goal is knowing who had the ability to know when not to swing.

2. Ricky Henderson
Barry Bonds is the all-time leader in walks, but he was often walked intentionally. Henderson is second, and wasn't often walked intentionally since he hit leadoff and so had the heart of the order behind him.

Here are the all time leaders in BB, intentional or otherwise: http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/BB_career.shtml

5. Yeah, can't think there were many times they'd walk him intentionally.
When he was leading the world in stolen bases, I saw him play the Rangers, where Pudge Rodriquez had just come up from the minors at 19. In just a couple of games, it was obvious Pudge had one of the best arms ever, and he threw out some base runners at second by so far they didn't even bother to slide--the ball would be at the bag before they could start.

So Henderson gets on base, and the crowd starts chanting "Steal, steal, steal!" This is the Texas crowd.

Other than that, he wasn't a person you wanted to put on base.

9. Babe Ruth?
It looks as if MLB didn't keep track of IBB (Intentional Walks) until later in the 20th century. Bonds had 688 IBBs. Willie McCovey is second with 260.

But I think that Rickey was the best at knowing when not to swing.

10. Well, Bonds walked 2,558 times, 688 intentionally
He leads in both career categories, so one could probably infer that he also has the most unintentional intentional walks.

11. he leads in both categories, but not in unintentional walks
2588 walks with 688 intentional walks means he was walked 1870 times unintentionally. Rickey Henderson is second in walks with 2190, but was only walked 61 times intentionally, so he was walked 2129 times unintentionally. (Babe Ruth is third in total walks with 2062.)
