"American Idol" showcases the depth of American historical awareness.
In their stirring salute to Boston and the Revolutionary War, the historical background music they chose was.....

"Dixie."

I wish I was in the land of cotton, old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land where I was born in, early on a frosty mornin',
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie Land.

2. I sort of enjoy the train wreck
that is American Idol, at least the early episodes where they show the really bad singers that tried out. Their lack of understanding of American culture, or tact or decorum or even how to run a TV show is one of the charms of "Idol."

3. Next week they'll feature "Jump down, turn around, to pick a bale o' cotton"
And the week after that they're running an Al Jolson tribute.

9. We used to sing that in class in first grade.
With related activity (jump down, turn around, etc.). Yup.

8. Now come on. To be fair, American Idol also played a song that was totally appropriate for Boston:
Paul Revere, by the Beastie Boys.
