Ever dream you were in college and didn't know when/where your classes were? |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 09:35 AM by raccoon
I dreamed that last night. I was desperately searching for my schedule. I looked through my purse, and stacks of papers, syllabuses (syllabae?), composition books, etc....and couldn't find it.
Now, I probably dreamed this because I work in an academic setting, and students have been printing off their schedules.
I think it means, Do you know what you want to do with your life? Are you doing what you want to do?
At least it's not the old exam dream. :scared:

3. I always have the exam dream. The class was Chinese History, which I never took. |
|
Although I did take a Chinese Art History class and, while it was fun and interesting, it was extremely hard to keep names straight because my western brain was just not wired to remember them. They all sounded so similar, but I suppose John, James, Jean, etc. sound confusingly similar to a non-Westerner.
I think that's why my anxiety dream took the shape of a Chinese History final. I'm a really good test-taker and have bluffed my way through a test or two in my day, but you can't fake something like that. In the dream I find the textbook in my apartment and suddenly realize the test is the next day and I have to figure a way to learn it all by then. :scared:

And I was rushing to the theater to perform and I didn't even know the name of the play. Of course there was a talent scout from Hollywood scheduled to watch the show, too. Ah well.

I think I have had some of those people in my class.
They are the ones who show up at your office during the last couple of weeks and ask how they can get an A in the class.
"But I've got to get an A in this class.!"
of course, I have often had that dream .... or I'm going to class and I can't remember where it is or if I've been there in the last month.
It is like the falling dream ... loss of control.

. Required freshman course -- taught you basic life skills like laundry and cooking mac-and-cheese and designed for 18-year-olds who were just leaving the nest for the first time. . I was 28 when I could afford to go -- 6 years in the Army and 4 years in the civilian workforce behind me. Stopped going after the first class and went to the prof's office right before finals week to let him know that I had "missed the last class" and needed to know where and when I had to show up to take the final. . He laughed and told me it had been a half-semester course and the final had been more than a month before. . Understood my situation and gave me the final right there. . . . Still can't make mac-and-cheese worth a darn. .

20. No, but I did used to have nightmares I was still stuck in high school. |
|
Since I didn't graduate, but instead got a GED, I view that as a sign that I didn't think of my GED as legitimate.
I would have recurring nightmares that I was still in high school at the age of 19, 20, 21, etc.
Thankfully those dreams all went away once I got my college degree.

Edited on Wed Jan-13-10 04:29 PM by UTUSN
(I also completed my active duty in '71) I signed a contract that takes effect NOW, and I go back in, and am the oldest one and have to deal with all the regulations and restrictions, the whole thing.
That said, last night I had one where I had parked my vehicle a block away from some modernistic building where I had to do something, then inside the building, like a bank or mall, kept getting bigger and overwhelming, with lots of light and structures and all, stunning to the sight, but HUGH!1 Then leaving, I went to the doors I entered, where the vehicle should have been across the street, and there was and incredibly HUGH!1 expanse of manicured lawn, going for miles, impossible to walk. Then going to other exits, there was some kind of trolley cars system for taking you to the city streets that used to be across one street, but (and on and on)... Never did get to the danged car before waking up!1

An old military buddy once told me about an article he read about how long it takes to get over being in the service. It really depends on your branch and type of service. He was in the Marines, which was something like 15 years to never. I'm going on 63, so I kind of lean toward "never" myself.

The one I really get is that I'll be enrolled in the several classes and then one by one will forget to attend them. As I miss each class I somehow resolve that I can't possibly attend it after missing one of the classes because I'll never catch up.
So slowly but surely I drop out one class at a time.

|
I walked into the first session of a class and asked the students if they were there for my class and they all said NO.
I realized what had happened. My community college district has three campuses, and the nitwits at the district office decided to put a campus number (a piece of information probably useful to about seven people if any) before the building letter and the room number after it a while back, so when I copied and pasted the location from the schedule, I mistakenly copied the wrong number.
Fortunately, it was a small building, so I only had to stick my head in a couple of rooms before I found my students.
