Photo of our new dog: (Awwwwwww...)

OK, it's a stock photo.
But it's a ringer for him.

And he's not really our dog.
But his 'parents' have swanned off to Australia for a month so Teddy is ours until they return.

I call him 'The Beave'.
You know...Theodore Cleaver?
"Leave it to Beaver"?
;-)

He is affectionate, very loyal, FIERCELY protective, and I think he weighs about a pound.
Maybe two.
He has absolutely no concept of his diminutive size, so that doesn't bother him a bit.

He sleeps with us, a real treat for him.
His mommy doesn't allow that.
:-(
If I get up in the night he immediately whips into my warm spot.
And I shove him over when I return.
He takes it well.
No whining.

It's our first experience with a tiny dog.
We were always German Shepherd people.
It's different, but he's a good little guy and I think we'll do fine.
:-)

2. I always wanted a German Shepherd mix but took in an abandonded small dog
small dogs are cool little dudes. I used to be biased against them but came to realize its the owner not the dog.

What a cutie! I hope you have fun with Teddy this month!

4. The Beave is hell on wheels. Literally.
He just goes apeshit at any wheeled vehicle that passes when we walk.
Cars, trucks, motorcycles, bikes, anything with wheels.
Just raises hell with them.

10. Years ago we had a Benji type dog that was like that.
If she ever got loose, she would chase cars and bite at their wheels. We use to joke that she would someday die when she finally caught one.

Well she got old and was losing her sight. One Christmas day she got loose along with our other dog, the escape artist. We weren't too worried because there was not much traffic on our road normally and on holidays there was almost none. Just a few minutes later though the other dog was back crying at the door. I went out to see what was wrong, and there in the road laid our Muffin. She had finally caught the tire. We buried her in the back yard and when we sold the house we left her there where she had loved to play.

A funny/strange thing happened that day after Muffin was killed. My ex husband was there and he put her in a plastic bag to bury her. Our other dog, a young male mix, kept coming to me begging me to go with him. He took me to where Muffin laid in that bad and cried for me to do something. I thought, maybe he was telling me that she was alive or something. I picked up the bag and could tell that was not true. When the ex took the bad and buried Muffin the other dog became so angry at me and I understood. To him I was the one capable of doing everything and he could not understand why I did not bring his friend back to life. It was one of the saddest days.

11. One of our shepherds, Studs, caught one.
He got away from me and went for a passing car.
Bit the tire.
Punctured and flattened it.
I'm not kidding.

He chipped a tooth.
The lady in the car happened to be married to a dentist.
She said he could fix the tooth.
She was just glad she hadn't killed Studs.

Her husband did fix the tooth and became our family dentist.
Ripley's Believe It Or Not?

7. He bothers her cats who sleep on the bed.
I think she has her priorities messed up.
Cats are OK, but they're not pack animals.
Dogs are.
All they want to be is WITH you.
But you already knew that.

12. The other side of the coin.....
.
Friend of mine's wife had a Peekapoo... nasty, vicious, ankle-bitin',
YAP-YAP-YAP-YAPPY li'l bitch (with pink ribbons the only 'sweetness'
about her). My friend had this beautiful, large pure-white German
Shepherd named Bear who WAS one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever
meet.
.
The Peekapoo would endlessly torment the big dog... to include
jumping up and clamping down with her teeth and literally DANGLING
from Bear's throat.
.
Bear would suffer these slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
with doleful brown eyes -- accepted his fate and never lashed out.
.
My friend used to wait until his wife had left the room and, while
the li'l one was dangling from the big 'uns neck, would happily
encourage, "Eat, Bear!! It's OK!! Eat!!"
.
Sadly............. Bear never did.
.
