So what's the buzz on the SyFy series "Caprica"?
As a total BSG addict, should I get my cable back for it?

1. Hmmm. I don't know. SPOILERS
First I'd like to say I LOVED the reboot BSG. Caprica? I'm not sure yet. From the miniseries it looks like a genius teenager developed the technology for "skin-job" cylons. Sorry, but it this turns into a series where the focus is on a bunch of goddamn Wesley Crusher wannabes, I'm outta there.

"The Plan" didn't impress me a whole hell of a lot, either.

2. Netflix has it. Don't bother with the cable hassle. Spoiler.

Basically, it's the back story of the creation of the Cylons. It's ok, but not BSG quality.

3. I Really, Really Liked The Pilot Episodes
If you're a BSG addict, you will want to check it out. Even in the pilot, some interesting plot points were filled in from BSG.

4. It might end up being very controversial...
And really stir up the Evangelicals and Fundamentalists, depending on how they write the episodes. It's made very plain in the pilot that the main bad guys are a bunch of monotheistic crackpots who throw the term "God" around a lot, act superior to everyone else and use suicide bombers. How others are viewed as terrorists because they espouse a viewpoint very different from the mainstream society. Commentaries on racism, and how certain people end up being drawn into organized crime because they are treated as inferiors. There's a lot of potential, and plenty of room in the future for some strong social commentaries.

OTOH, it could degenerate into simply a soap-opera. Who is screwing whom physically and monetarily, who is hiding secrets, and so on. Don't expect any space travel. IIRC, there is not a single shot, or even any mention of any spacecraft in the pilot.

8. Additionally, Daniel Graystone comes across as an atheist.
In fact, it looks like Graystone is being set up as a Dr. Frankenstein possibly. Lots of great potential.

And the name "Daniel" is an interesting choice, since that was the name of the 7th Cylon model that we never got to see in BSG. And until further notice, the Caprica Times has decided that Daniel Graystone is the 7th Cylon.

6. Is The Company That Eric Stoltz Is Heading
The same one that Baltazar works for?

7. I doubt it.
Since Graystone's company creates the Cylons, I can't imagine it will still be in existence by the time Baltar shows up.
