Mel Gibson's 'Hellish' War With Cigarettes

By Bryan Alexander Posted Jan 17th 2010 10:10AM

http://www.popeater.com/2010/01/17/mel-gibson-smoking-cigarettes/

In 'Edge of Darkness,' the action veteran not only continues to throw punches but also absorbs his share of blows. The 54-year-old Gibson can use all the help he can get to keep up with the high-octane shoots. One fight scene in particular required special preparation.

"I ordered a chiropractor for the day after," says Gibson. "I knew I was going to wake up like road kill. You don't bounce back as quick as you used to. It's not a pleasant experience. Things don't pop back the way they used to."

The whole thought of body pain and a world without smoking made GIbson forget that he has a hot, young Russian girlfriend.

"There's no more fun thing left," says Gibson "I just don't do anything fun anymore."

Putting the nail in the depression coffin he sighed: "But that's dying isn't it? You die in stages. Things go in pieces. I'm more than halfway through."

9. I'm still waiting for him to make a movie about Christ's birth him being such a devout
Christian and all. I mean he made one about the crucifixion, one would thing he would want to tell the story of how it all began? But of course there's not enough violence and mayhem in the manger scene to satisfy the blood-lust of those who loved his slasher film.

17. Yeah, and since he has to make himself the hero in everything, it would be hard
for him to pull off being the baby Jesus in the film.

19. Brave Heart is the only movie of his that I like
If any of his movies come on, I turn the station. I just can't stand them.

And I'm sorry he is depressed that he is getting old, but damn, talk about a failure to count your blessings.

24. his intro was shocking - people in the audience didn't....
know whether to gasp or laugh. I gasped, then I laughed. Ricky Gervais said he wouldn't be doing the Golden Globes again, so..... what the hell.
