My psychiatrist is an idiot. |
|
Basically, he only thinks I have borderline personality disorder because I was pissed at him once (for perfectly good reasons after being screwed over by that hospital multiple times), plus having a history of self-harm.
He refuses to up my seroquel from 100 mg (baby dose). It's working on my depression, but not nearly enough. Basically that dose works just enough to keep me alive. Apparently I don't deserve any quality of life! He then suggested going on paxil (even though I have manic reactions to anti-depressants - it's happened twice), then acted like it was my fault for not wanting to try again with a class of drugs that clearly have the side effect of making me crazy.
Thank god I'm seeing a GP psychotherapist on Thursday who apparently isn't a total idiot.

1. Yeah, get another opinion. Even if the new one doesn't change your prescription |
|
maybe you'd find someone who respects you more. Sounds like the current dude has made up his mind about you and won't change it.
Good luck.

3. Hope you can see another psychiatrist/counselor. |
|
Some of them are really good. Some of them are real ding-a-lings. And sometimes, the chemistry between prof. and patient just isn't there.

4. L&S Some of them go into that trade because they are a little funny themselves. |
|
But there are some very good ones - keep searching, and good luck. When you find the right fit, you will be amazed.

6. They also see life thrugh their own lens. |
|
Like everybody else, they have opinions about people and why they do things. No amount of academia can wipe that out.

But a big hug, and a famous snippet from Thoreau's "Walden"
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away"
And a different drummer it may be that you are marching though life's paces--which in my eyes makes you valuable and precious and rare.
Keep trying, I have full confidence you'll find what you need. (BTW, I have a lot of experience with BPD, and even though this is the internet, and I'm in no way qualified to even begin to judge, you've never seemed that way to me. Others yes, you, no.)

..you and your shrink need to work as a team. So you're right to look for someone else. You need to be able to trust him, he needs to respect you.
