I hate political posts on Facebook
I have a friend who's pretty conservative. He posted something about how he was glad the MA seat went to a Repub. I hate reading that kind of crap there. Anyone else get annoyed by that?

1. I've noticed conservatives on facebook are the first to claim
you attacked them when you disagree with them spamming Facebook with comments about how Scott Brown was elected to the white house seat instead of a Democrat which would have been a disaster. Somebody who sent me a friend request because we went to school together but I'm not really close has been making comments like that since yesterday.

6. You are absolutely right about that.
I bashed Rush Limbaugh on my FB page and this ultra conservative "friend" of mine jumped all over me. So I went to her FB page to post something and it is nothing but liberal bashing.

Fuck her -- she's not worth the energy.

51. I was told I'm rude for responding to a political post.
Then she accused me of attacking her, even though I only wrote about the link, and nothing about her. Then she proceeded to call me names and attack me personally, which I never did to her.

They've adopted the talk radio mentality of victimization and projection. It's horrifying and pathetic.

2. religious posts on FB are worse.
I have several friends who feel the need to use their FB page as a pulpit, and post all kinds of Bible verses, "God loves you" type crap and how everyone needs to be saved or perish forever... it's people like that who make me glad FB included a feature where you can ignore posts from certain friends so they won't show up on your news feed.

16. what's really mindboggling is that most of them haven't quite grasped the fact that
FB is international. Some seem genuinely shocked that people in other countries actually have different opinions than they do. My fave though are the ones who slam FBers who don't speak English as a first language. One even posted "This is America, SPEAK ENGLISH" and was shocked to find out that the rest of the world begged to differ with her. :eyes:

3. I guess it would bother me if I was friends with any conservatives. But since I sometimes
post comments of a liberal persuasion on my own page, I was careful not to friend anyone who might be offended. That, and I thankfully don't have a lot of conservative friends. Just one brother, who's used to being the odd man out with ten siblings who are all raging liberals.

I suppose it would be hypocritical of me anyway, since like I said I post comments myself. Not all the time, but once in awhile.

5. You can hide their posts -- that's what I did.
I've got a "friend" from grade school on FB -- she is a right to life, ultra conservative, liberal bashing, republican. I got tired of reading her bullshit, so I hid her posts from my FB page. Go to the right of that person's post, and you will see the word "hide" -- simply click onto the word and you won't have to read their bullshit anymore.

The only reason I keep my "friend" as a friend is because we have mutual friends and I didn't want to look like a dick.

20. I agree.
It's a personal web page, I don't get the need to dictate what people should or shouldn't post on them. My friends tend to care about political issues, so they tend to post about them. It's not like a public school with a teacher forcing their opinions on captive students. Don't like it, click away from it.

15. I have hidden or deleted several 'friends' for political posts
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 01:54 PM by southpaw
I do not post my politics on FaceBook. Admittedly, I did post a few angry updates back during the uproar over Obama's speech to the students... mostly in reaction to the utterly ridiculous paranoia being voiced by the righties. Since then, I've kept politics out of my public postings.

Some 'friends' have been deleted outright for political postings that carried racist undertones or espoused a 'birther' perspective. Just coincidentally, these were posted by 'friends' that I knew in high school in the 80's, not by anyone I actually associate with in the present.

There are a few friends I have hidden from my feed because they are prone to right-wing political posts and I simply don't want to see them. By hiding their status updates, I can maintain a contact with them through private messages, but I don't have to see their pro-puke or anti-Dem postings every time I log on.

I'm considering hiding some friends who constantly preach their religion on FaceBook, but so far, that sort of thing hasn't caused my blood pressure to shoot up the way the right wing blow hards do.

"Scott Brown wins Massachusetts' U.S. Senate Seat. Maybe there is some hope for America."

Honestly, sometimes I can't believe we come from the same two people... I think it's time I hide my brother's posts from appearing in my feed...

WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Press 1 for English. Press 2 to disconnect until you learn to speak English. And remember only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, JESUS CHRIST. And the AMERICAN SOLIDER. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. I finally unfriended her. I never minded her occasional political post. I've discussed sensitive topics such as politics and religion with a few others on facebook but you need to be able to take as good as you give. She's claimed a few people including me attacked her by replying to her with news articles debunking her but lately it's gotten ridiculous. The ironic part is she's constantly complaining about being broke and struggling to pay for child care, rent, etc but she's voting against her own self interests and obviously doesn't know much about politics if she thinks Brown won a "white house seat."

It's as if they think siding with their owners gives them some kind of power. I'll never forget the expression on a republican friend's face when I told him, "You're never going to be rich. You'll never belong to the ruling class..." He looked like he was going to cry!

Partially cuz I rarely post there anyway, but on occasion feel a need to respond to another political post. I have also "unfriended" a couple of friends for posts defending Palin and Limbaugh. They have a right to support neo-nazis, and I have a right and duty to call em on it, and block them from infecting my "wall"or whatever you call it with that level of ignorance.
