Almost every day I say to my dog: "I wish you could read"
Because I spend so much of my time reading, and she mostly just watches me reading. And so I think that if she could read then she'd understand what I was doing all that time.

But today for the first time ever, I thought: it's a good thing she can't read. She can be blissfully ignorant of the horrific stuff going on in the human world.

She can keep all her focus on things like "scratch my back" or "can I have a cookie?" or "I need to pee, please let me out."

Wouldn't that be nice? Maybe it's I who shouldn't be reading today.

2. Well I do, but then I have to explain it, too
And if it's DU, I usually get a little heated and irritated while reading, and then she thinks I'm mad at her.

:D

3. I say that to my dog a lot. He replies, "Oh, please-just leave me alone!"
I remember a '90's cartoon of a dog walking upright, wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase, going to work, saying, "I rue the day I started taking that Ginko-Biloba...."

4. my dog could read me
For sixteen years he followed me around watching me like a keen scholar, studying my every move, especially those in a kitchen direction.

5. I wish my dog could do a lot of things
Clean, dust, wash clothes, get me a snack from the fridge. All she wants to do is sit on my lap and cuddle! :)

6. My JRT watching me read:
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 08:56 AM by Richardo

I was reclined on the couch, and eventually I had the eerie feeling that I was being watched. I looked up from my book and this is what I saw.

8. How do you know she can't read? Mrs. Murphy in Rita Mae Brown's mysteries

can read. Her human doesn't know it, but she can. :-)

10. My dog watches me read but I know she is plotting ways to steal food.
This morning there was an empty box of donuts on the kitchen floor. Last night the box was half full on the middle of the kitchen table beyond her reach, or so I thought. She knew it was there, she'd seen me eat one, and she'd been upset because I hadn't shared. She does not need any more extra calories!!!

When I picked the box up off the floor she looked at me like she didn't know anything about it. I just shook my head.

Okay, this is funny, she just peeked into the room, and instead of coming in and lying down next to my chair as she usually does, she must have figured out I was writing about her and the donuts so she walked downstairs to lie on her pillow, which is where she usually goes after she's been scolded.

I know she's not feeling guilty about stealing the donuts, not one bit, but she'll pretend she is.
