I get my CPAP machine tomorrow, and not a minute too soon. |
|
I thought it was all nonsense when my Dr made me get tested, but I sure felt great after a night on one. I didn't know how tired I was all the time till I finally felt rested!
Today I feel like :hangover:

9. I always see that word as CRAP too. It's like an optical illusion. |

an actual life saver. Turns out I was having an apnea event 56 times an hour.
I had sleep apnea surgery and my sleeping oxygen blood level went from 66% to 88%. I'm having lap band surgery in a month or so, and after losing some weight I'm hoping to lose the CPAP altogether.

6. you are going to be shocked how much better you feel |
|
(although your arms/back may be a little sore from actually sleeping in one position for longer periods instead of tossing and turning, constantly getting up to pee, etc etc)
Enjoy your real rest!

I was on steroids! Can't remember when I felt so rested.
The only downside is it would make for an awkward date. ;-)

12. Everyone wants an inflatable girlfriend! |
|
(One of the things my Loved One said to me when I got mine, along with, "Now say, 'Luke I am your father.'")
I've been using one so long I think it's weird when I see people in movies/ TV not using one...

17. yeah - its a little darth vader or scuba diving-like |
|
but it's like any other "disability", the person needs to accept you for who you are. Besides the best part of the date isn't when you are asleep - it's a little earlier, eh?

for 10 years and it's great for me. I hear it doesn't work for some, but it changed everything (sleep wise) when I started using it.

Although the extra breeze is nice when it's super hot!
And camping = hotel without room service :-)

14. Make sure your mask doesn't leak air that hits your eyes |
|
I've had "dry eye" a couple of times and boy, does that hurt! My Doc told me to spread a thin layer of KY (no kidding) on the mask to make a better seal if necessary.
Good luck with your cpap!

16. I remember my first sleep test..they put me on a CPAP halfway through |
|
I dreamed and dreamed! I woke up feeling so fresh and rested. This was 17 years ago and my CPAP is that old too so I haven't used it in the last few years. I go next month for another sleep test and to aquire another CPAP machine. I can't wait!

19. Tried it, couldn't hack it |

I just felt too claustrophobic when I had it on. Plus, I have a seni-deviated septum, so one nostril is blocked.

I had a severely deviated septum. When they finished with my nose, my tastes had changed. I actually like water now! And I can breathe!
They did a bunch of other stuff to me: removed my lingual tonsils, resected some of the base of my tongue, redid my soft palate. I was miserable for a few weeks, but it was all worth it. I had a great surgeon, too.

I have a CPAP, too. I've had mine for about three years now. I could not believe the difference, either.
My husband has one as well. It's sooo sexy. (I'm joking.) Actually, it's a good feeling to know I'll have him around a lot longer than I would if he didn't use the CPAP.
I hope the adjustment period's quick, it really, really helps, and you wake up refreshed every morning from now on!
:woohoo:
