Those manual overhead garage door locks... |
|
where right above the inside handle is a teardrop shaped knob that turns and drops about a one inch long bar into a notch in the handle to lock it.
Mine broke and the knob just spins around now.
Before I go and take the damn thing apart...does anyone know if they are fixable, or do I have to call a locksmith?
Thank you in advance.

1. Is this the kind you mean? I'd call or go to your local hardware/home improvement center |

3. Yep...that's the outside of it. |
|
That rod goes through the door and into a box about the size of a deck of cards on the inside. The teardrop knob sits on that box. I'm sure that box has some guts in it though that are not included in that package.
I'm going to Home Depot to see if I can find something.
Thank you for replying.

seems like anything similar made in the last 25 years is just a POS that has to be replaced. Hell, I have a 70 year old door latch that has a broken spring latch and I am wondering if I can find somebody to make a new part for that. hmmmmm I wonder if Ptah is into this kind of thing...

I hate calling people....it can't be that hard...I'm going to see what I can do. I'll try to find replacement parts. :hi:

9. HEY KALI! How did you know??? |
|
I bought a "universal" replacement today at Home Depot. The goddamn holes were EXACTLY 1/4 inch off center!
So I just took the old one apart, cleaned it, and WD-40'd the hell out of it...now it's working just fine.
