Update on our dog - Peanut's surgery. Peanut went to the vet to get his staples removed today, and |
|
we got a biopsy report. The thyroid gland removed was cancerous, but the cancer seems to have stayed inside the mass of the growth. There is NO evidence that any had spread anywhere else. His lungs and heart were checked previously and found to be clear. We have been given the option of having chemo treatment, but have decided against it. Even if cancer were to re-appear, he ould probably not show symptoms for a year and a half or longer, and he has already lived longer than many dogs of his size - 110 pounds. He will be 10 this summer. We decided to spare him the 6 monthly trips to the vet for chemotherapy because we want him to have a good life without the constant treatments and recovery that may not add much time to his life, if any, and may not ever prove necessary.
He is recovering well from his surgery, and he is happy to be home, and beginning to act the way he was before he became ill.
Thanks to all who replied to the first thread.Meryl, Peanut, Lilian(the cat) and I wish a long happy life to all your animal companions.
