3. My experience:

I'm 6'3", 235 lbs., and I find the Prius to be very comfortable.
I can even comfortably ride in the back seat if the front seat isn't full back.
We've made a few 3000 mile roadtrips in it.
No problem.
Comfortable to drive and plenty of room for luggage with the back seats flipped down.
I've hauled 8' 2X4s in it.

And it's not a slug.
Plenty of acceleration when you need it.

We also have a Dodge minivan which now sits in the carport most of the time.
Both of us just have more fun driving the Prius.
Hypermiling and seeing how high we can get the average mpg.
It's just a very fun and dependable car.
Go for it.

2. I have had two - 1st generation and 2nd generation

Loved them both. 1st gen got between 40-45 mpg, 2nd gen does a little better with best mileage being on long drives without much stop or start (close to 55mpg). It has definitely changed my driving habits - slower starts and stops, more coasting. The computer readout really trains you.

With the 1st one, I depleted my battery on a drive from Denver up to the Eisenhower Tunnel. All of a sudden I went from 65 to 35. Fortunately I was only about 1/2 mile from the summit and the battery rapidly recharged. Did several very high passes this summer without any problem.

I really have nothing bad to say about either one. I still have the 2nd and took a 6500 mile backroads trip with it last summer. My daughter has the 1st and loves it.

I have no idea about the little window.

5. I rented one for a few days at Christmas.

I'm the same size as you, trof, give or take. I thought it drove and handled fine, once I got used to the CVT transmission. It had plenty of room inside. I thought the seat was adequate, but no more. Not very comfortable for a long trip - I drove it from Nashville to New Orleans - but not the worst. Lots of flat hard plastic in the interior. Looks cheap. I didn't like the horizontally split rear window, but the back-up camera rocked! Good radio too. My dog didn't like the front seat and rode in the back. Usually she rides up front. I wouldn't buy one, but they are worth looking at for others. Meh, I'm a Jeep guy.

6. OK, I go along with seat 'adequate'.

It's a bit firm.
My minivan seat is MORE comfortable, but really, the Prius seat is good enough for me.
We've driven from coastal Alabama to Boston 3 or 4 times.
No complaints.

I guess you sacrifice a bit of comfort for all the rest you get with a Prius.
I was amazed at the cargo capacity with the rear seats folded down.
And the space under the rear deck is terrific.

9. I chalked it up to the fuel economy thing.

Doesn't make much sense to stuff a captain's chair into a "hyper=milage" vehicle.:shrug: I need better ground clearance for work, too.

It handles nice and gives me no problems. And it gets 46 mpg.
Its got an annoying blind spot.

11. I want one so bad

My neighbor has one that she inherited from her dad.

I drive a Lincoln Mark VII, which is sooo not me. I'd love any kind of hybrid car.
