1. I'm not knowledgeable enough to play along, but I could swear that
in yesterday's or Wednesday's USA Today where was a headline story in the entertainment section saying there's basically no way Taylor Swift can lose album of the year because she's got the pop and country audiences so firmly entrenched in her camp.

That's just FYI, in case you were interested. Truth be told, I'm betting I haven't heard a single song nominated.

2. The reason I'm not predicting Taylor Swift
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 11:46 PM by blue_onyx
is because they don't typically pick albums from newer artists. Here's the winners from the last five years:

2009 Raising Sand - Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
2008 River: The Joni Letters - Herbie Hancock
2007 Taking the Long Way - Dixie Chicks
2006 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2
2005 Genius Loves Company - Ray Charles

If Taylor Swift does win, it would be very undeserved, IMO. I don't understand her appeal. Also, I'm not so sure she has pop fans on her side, especially considering that Lady Gaga is also nominated.

3. I don't understand the appeal of Swift OR Lady Gaga.
People have tried to explain it to me, and it still doesn't sink in. Neither strike me as overly talented, and Gaga's costumes seem designed to annoy.

8. I really like Lady Gaga
She is overrated but I do like her. Some people, however, act like she the most innovative singer ever. While I love her music, it's nothing that hasn't been done before.

Taylor Swift, on the other hand, I don't like at all. She's a average singer (at best) and her songs annoy me.

6. I can predict all categories with the same description
Should win: Someone who actually writes songs and plays an instrument.
Will win: Some Disney/American idol/Nashville manipulated twit who does neither.

This past decade has been almost completely devoid of actual talent in the music industry, thanks to ever increasing corporate control.

7. My words exactly. I worked for CBS for 8 years and it always surprised me ...
...how the back-up studio singers were (usually) 3X better than the so-called "Star". :)

(I was a lowly Studio Player)
