i'm going to college!
I'll be 22 in July, and I'm finally ready to hit the books again. I applied to the associates of science program at my local community college. I'm going to be an anthropologist :o]

What have you accomplished lately that you're proud of?

1. Well, it was a long time ago, and it was called anthropology.
Do you know the unemployment rate in anthropology? It's higher than show biz.

2. that's okay =)
I'd hate to be 40 one day and look back and think of what could have been. I'd rather take the chance and fail rather than never taking the chance at all, or wasting my time at school doing something I don't want to do. Far too many of my friends are graduating this year, and they're miserable. They're different people than they were when we graduated high school.

16. Realistically speaking, you could end up being 40 and see that you had only a slim chance of
getting a decent career, even with a college degree. Hey, it happens to the best of us.

Better luck next time for all of us.

4. Don't listen to that.
I'm an archaeologist and know lots of working archaeologists in the southeast. Take a field school, prepare to get blisters, and hold on for the ride of your life!!!!

5. Yay for you going back to school... i waited until i was 40
I'm 3/4 through my program (working on a BA in English, probably with a minor in "creative nonfiction" writing), and will probably not finish grad school until i am almost 50.

Figure out what you love, and then do it... beats the hell out of hating going to work every day.

6. BRAVA!!! ... BRA-FUCKING-VA!!!
.
Caitzrawks: I'd rather take the chance and fail rather than never taking the chance at all
.
There's a whole spectrum of life philosphies out there -- ranging from Daedalus flying too
close to the sun all the way down to Gollum pathetically surviving in the rancid muckscum.
.
I'd much rather risk Daedalus' fallen fate than Gollum's -- and it sounds like you would too.
.
The muckscum will always be there. Even if you should end up wallowing there, you would at
the very LEAST have the proud realization that at least you tried to soar on currents of air.
.
Too many never do... and I truly believes it weighs VERY heavily upon them sooner or later.
.
Good for you and good luck... but your attitude makes me believe you won't need to count
overly much on "luck" .

8. that is great! I am jealous :)
I went back in my 30's and managed to finish my associates degree, but I want to finish my BA. If I could figure out a way to fund it, I would happily be a professional student. It took me six years to finish my aa because I swear I took every single class I possibly could in any subject (but math)and I enjoyed all of them!

To answer your question... I am extremely happy that I am making progress in my book business. I sell used/out of print books, 20th century history mostly... WWII+Nazis+Holocaust/ColdWar+Russia/Espionage with some Texana and random history. I am not making a lot of money, but I have had a deposit every pay period since the end of September selling on Amazon. I am currently working on my website, hitting Facebook and increasing my inventory. I feel really good about my project, even in this effing economy.

I replaced hanks and grommets on one jib, and restitched a seam on another. Old dogs and new tricks :-)

15. Don't let anyone pee on your parade.
Go to college for something you really want to pursue as a career. If it's anthropology you're interested in, then go for it, stick with it if you decide you like it, and just change majors if you have serious doubts.

If you want to pursue a career in anthropology, be prepared to make serious adjustments in your life path in order to make a career happen.
