1. I live in Minnesota, I drink a lot, and I play hockey.

I really have no choice.

God, every line in that movie is quotable. Fucking classic.

14. I had a lot of reasons to dislike Sarah Palin,
but one was her whole "hockey mom" shtick -- every time she pulled that out, I yelled at the TV, "Honey, I PLAY the goddamn game, not just drag my kid's bag around! Put on some skates and BRING IT, sister!"

4. The curse of 9 choices plus "Other"
I had Major League on the list...there are probably a few others I missed as well. I even Googled the term "sports movie comedy" to come up with my list...but it's a start, anyway.

:toast:

6. Would "Mystery, Alaska" count as a sports comedy?
Oh, who am I kidding....I'll vote for anything with Russell Crowe in it.

28. The first time I saw him in a movie was LA Confidential.
I must have been living in a cave or something but I could not BELIEVE that he was an Australian. And of course it goes beyond accents...what an amazing talent he is. I have to admit I am also very fond of the slightly rumpled face. He looks real. But better.

23. In that case, you could work Gladiator in there.
It had an arena, athletes, competition... Sports? right?

17. It's in the hole!

What an incredible Cinderella story! This unknown comes out of nowhere to lead the pack at Augusta. He's on his final hole. He's about 455 yards away. He's going to hit about a two iron, I think. Well, he got out of that! The crowd is standing on its feet here at Augusta. The normally reserved Augusta crowd... going wild for this young Cinderella who has come out of nowhere. He's got about 355 yards left. He's gonna hit about a five iron I would expect. Don't you think? He's got a beautiful back swing. That's- Oh, he got out of that one! He's got to be pleased with that. The crowd is on its feet here. He's a Cinderella boy. Tears in his eyes, I guess, as he lines up this last shot. He's got about 195 yards left, and... he's gonna... looks like he's got an eight iron. This crowd has gone deadly silent. Cinderella story. Out of nowhere. A former greens-keeper now about to become the Master's champion. It is like a mirac- It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

26. Something about Paul Newman with a filthy mouth
that just cracks me up. That alone is half the fun.

Second best is North Dallas Forty. The only true and honest movie about professional football. Also, quite filthy in places. With lines like this from Mac Davis's quarterback character Maxwell. (I replaced the original quote I used, it was just too filthy)

You know Hartman, goodie-two-shoes is fidgeting around like a one-legged cat trying to bury shit on a frozen pond, until old Seth fixes him a couple of pink poontang specials. You know, that crazy drink that I fix for stewardesses? Two shots out of that and Hartman is shot to shit, freaked out. I mean, I never saw a guy having so much fun and crying at the same time!
