Poll question: Would you Dys someone wearing a denim shirt?
I was recently ridiculed...admonished...for my denim shirt.
My shirt was referred to as a "Shawshank Redemption" shirt as that was the attire of the movie.
WTF?
It was so hellish that I felt as though I was being accused of a crime.
I have an array of denim shirts. Most of them were purchased at the Salvation Army, and many are over 20 years old.
The accuser does not own denim shirts as they are not in style.

I'd just like an opinion of denim shirts; those who love them and those who loathe them.
Photo of said shirt:

Thank you.

peace~

1. I think I have that shirt!
I bought a denim shirt about 12 years ago the exact same color with the same buttons as the one in your picture. It was cheap, cute, and it's lasted me over a decade so I don't care what anybody has to say about style.

Wear what feels good to you. Life is too short for uncomfortable clothing. Anyone who dysses/disses your fashion choice probably doesn't have enough to do.

Especially when they're just a bit worn and washed a million or more times.

Almost as soft as flannel, and they stay looking good forever.

Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 08:15 PM by Chan790
just like hipsters and cord-blazers and "nerd glasses" and bald guys with shaved heads and tribal tats.

Edit: Yes, I would most definitely "diss" someone I knew for wearing a denim shirt.

11. Isn't a "bald guy with a shaved head" an oxymoron?
I mean a "guy with thinning hair who shaves his head" makes sense, but why would a bald guy need to shave his bald head?

Well, as one who is rapidly approaching that condition, I believe I will opt for shaving what little remains rather than some lame attempt at conserving a facimile of hair.

16. it's a colloquial thing...
as someone who unfortunately gets to see it in writing frequently...the group or cadre most likely to use the term (teenagers) use "diss"; you'd likely be dyssed by them for using dys. It's just not obvious enough for the LOL-speak generation; dictionaries be damned.

(The joys of tutoring creative writing for inner-city youth.)

40. No actually...
I think if it's something that you feel is quintessentially you or that makes you feel comfortable, that's cool. That wouldn't be true of any of my close friends though...well maybe my roommate except that it violates his work dress-code and he dresses like Bill Belichick when he's not at work.

It was a fad-fashion item though and a lot of people wore them because it was "cool" to wear a denim shirt. So...if any of my friends ever showed up in a denim shirt, like any of the other fad-fashion items I listed, it would be a cause for ridicule.

Chan790:hug:
You are young...Yes, checked your blog and now understand why you may think that denim shirts are a fad item. Denim has been around since the beginning of time.;-) I'm old enough to be your mother.:-)
It's impossible for denim shirts to be a fad-fashion....Denim shirts always were.
They are so ordinary...common...In my opinion it can't possibly be a fashion statement. But that's just me. The word 'cool' in the poll was just a word....
I could have used other words to convey the same meaning. Example: You used the word cool in your first sentence.
I hope that you don't judge people, ridicule for attire that is universal. I try not to judge, but admit that it's difficult...we're human. Although I sound serious...this was meant to be a goofy poll based on an important learning experience.
We cease to be when we stop learning....

Thank you for calification....yet I feel that I must address something in your other post:D

Dys is in caps....a goofy take on my user name.
'Dis'....Language (slang) of a younger generation used for 'disrespect'
I don't speak it....but I can write it.

A DUer held in high esteem actually used it when I first joined...but would never recall.
It's an inside job...so to speak.:D

As far as the shirt story...In retrospect...a lesson in life.
It takes all kinds...

27. Denim shirts are OK, and I have had my share of them over the years...
.
... but I GREATLY prefer blue chambray shirts.
.
Long-lasting, laid-back but somehow sophisticated, mmmmsoftmmmm,
and go with everything (even my lederhosen and propellor beanie --
although people point and giggle if I try to wear all THREE at
the same time).
.
Compared to chambray, denim IS just a leetle stiff and coarse
for my tastes and skin.
.
Wear mostly scrubs tops now, though I haven't worked in that
field for over 30 years. Comfortable, functional, no-fuss.
.
And they make my door-to-door ob/gyn scam so much more credible.
.
.
.
Say ah!!!

Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 11:04 AM by pitohui
people tease me sometimes abt my vintage clothes, "oh my eyes!" about some of the psychedelic stuff but for the most part i think they accept that i have a "different" look because i more often get compliments and questions abt where i purchased the items

i think the key to making it look like a "look" instead of you just grabbed a rag from 1978 out of the back of your closet is good grooming and good accessories

if you're wearing an expensive squash blossom necklace with the denim shirt, for example, ain't nobody gonna "dis" you

a denim shirt that is not blue, pretty much what that means. although he has quite a few that are black, but they have computer company logos on them. so, they are cool in a lot of ways, but he can't wear them to work.
i think a denim shirt covered with political buttons is a work of art.
