Do you think anyone would be interested in vintage West Point Academy lamps?
I'm not sure what to do with these - no one in the family wants them, but they are piece of history. From West Point Academy (where my Grandfather taught) are two lamps. This was the mid-thirties. They are made of brass and have the crest on them.

Do people collect these things?

Do you think West Point Academy themselves might be interested?

4. High reserve E-Bay.
Someone somewhere wants those lamps. History should cost more.

15. If its valuable watch out for scammers. Ebay is full of them.
And they make it hard for Sellers to do much about it.

Like know how to real email headers because people will send you fake emails saying they won your auction to try and trick you into clicking on their phish or to try and get you to send them whatever it is they fake bid on.

Make sure to have "immediate payment by paypal required" upon completion of auction. Some people like to bid and then wait 3 weeks to pay.

Then you also have to make sure that whomever is bidding on your item isnt using a stolen ebay/paypal account.

What I do is everytime I see something that "doesn't look right" I post a question in their Trust and Safety forums and ask them what I should do.

Its more of a problem with valuable items. Everytime I try to sell a cell phone on ebay I have to do this stupid dance to make sure I get paid.

Document everything and make sure to get a Signature Confirmation with delivery. If the person even suggests to ebay that they didn't get your item then Paypal will just the amount from your account and pay the guy. Then you have to fight paypal for your money.

5. People collect every thing.
Sell them on eBay, you'd be surprised. Take a few good pictures of them and put them up.

7. Yes people collect those things.
Anything military is a prime collectible, the older and more rare the better.

No harm in contacting the Point. If anyone is interested, probably expect a donation rather than purchase them.

Flog one on Ebay and keep the other. It will only go up in value and you or some other family member may want to hold on to it for sentiment sake.

8. Never, ever ,ever seperate a pair.
Never. Antiques are usually worth more as pairs than if you split them up.

Hey, I guess all that Antiques Roadshow watching is paying off.

A smaller one that still has the brass emblem. But these two are BIG HONKIN LAMPS! I don't have room for them

9. Just a question: Your avatar includes Edie and Lou Reed. Why?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-10 07:22 PM by Mike 03
Were they great, helpful Americans?

They were talented and fascinating for sure, but do they epitomize being a great American?

EDIT: At least that looks like Edie. I could be wrong.

12. They were and yes they did
They're the last great American band to walk the earth. Every band since has been a cheap imitation.

I don't mean to barge in on your conversation, but I saw the pic of Edie Sedgewick and wanted to say that I have a cat named after her! :)

21. Put it on eBay.
My husband, who was a marine engineer before he retired, collects WW II merchant marine memorabilia off of eBay. He's always picking up stuff from the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. I'm sure even more people collect West Point stuff.
