Facebook: Sometimes you wonder what in the heck you could have possibly done...
to have someone de-friend you?

I had an old work contact, who was fairly high up, on my friends list. But for some reason, over the last week or two, she de-friended me. I can't think of what I could have possibly posted or said that would have encouraged her to de-friend me, but she did!

I'm a little sad, because this was someone who I wanted to keep in touch with. No longer, it seems.

2. Worry about it for a long time. Try to guess. Lose sleep.
Or ask and be done with it. :)

Could have been an accident, could have been a misunderstanding, could be something in your profile she doesn't like. I've defriended people just because they played so many games that my whole front page was full of their game updates--these weren't people I spoke to, anyway. And I'm always getting friend requests from people who say they dumped me by accident, or through a glitch, or because they didn't recognize my name at first.

And if she really doesn't want to be your friend, to hell with her. Her loss.

7. I just hide the ones who get annoying.
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 10:57 AM by GoCubsGo
On of my "friends" still works a the lab where I got laid-off three years ago. She still has a job, yet spends much of her day logged into FB, where she bitches half the time about having to be at work. As one who is still struggling to find a permanent job, that is too much to take. So, her posts are hidden. If I really want to know what's going on with her, I can always visit her wall.

8. You have to click to HIDE the games. It's annoying as crap...
I have hidden Farmville, Mafia Wars, every stupid timewaster known to man. You don't hide the friend, you just hide the idiotic game.

4. Sometimes Facebook will "drop" friendships as a glitch.
I've had a couple people re-friend me when I didn't know the connection had dropped. Send her a friend request with a message that says, "Whoops, you fell off my friend list!" and see what happens.

25. I had that happen
With someone who I see often. I added her, then realized that she had already once been on my friends list, but for some reason not anymore. She swears she had no idea what happened.

27. Yeah, I got a few of those
I don't defriend because of political views. Hey, we're all different.

Although I do have a few seemingly uninformed friends who post lots of AM radio/FOX News nonsense about the stimulus package, Obama, Al Gore, etc. I let it pass. I have a thick hide and don't get worked up over stupid shit.

I have, however, defriended a couple people (old classmates) that, for some reason, decided to insult me. That shit I don't need.

30. What was weird is that this guy, a classmate of mine, is a pretty progressive guy.
He's as upset with the President as a lot of people on the left. But I was upset that he was joining the haters.

Weirder than that is the fact that old friends of mine that I rediscovered on FB who turned out to be repukes, I haven't de-friended......yet. Most of them are okay, despite their shitty politics.

And I have some friends who are VERY liberal, but are also Catholic, so they join FB "pro-life" groups. I can understand that, since in every other respect, we agree politically.

she joined Glenn Becks group also, but the OBAMA thing was unacceptable. I did not de-friend, just hid all posts from her.

6. Did she de-friend you or disable her account?
If you have mutual friends, look at their friend lists to see if she's there. If not, odds are she disabled her account. I have a friend who comes and goes there. In fact, after being gone for a couple of months, she came back this past Friday. Between then and today, she disabled her account and then came back twice. I have no idea what is up with that, but I am just glad she's back--for now.

so out of curiosity, I did a search for a few names, and this person's name was no longer on my friend's list.

It was coincidental.

20. Lots of people play the games with other people
My sister and I both play "Cafe World" and allow the posts from the app that will offer each other stuff. (She can click on some of my posts to increase her points and vice versa.)

That said, we have an agreement that once we've picked up the item, we "like" the post so the other person can delete it. That way we get the best of both - we play the game together and help each other out but don't hog our other friends home pages with post after post about stuff they couldn't care less about...

28. The application does it sometimes
I play Mafia Wars, as does about 10% of my friends list. I post that stuff mostly for them, so they can grab the loot. After a few hours, I delete those posts, as they are no longer necessary.

You can block certain applications (i.e. Farmville, which I have no interest in) from posting on your wall, which minimizes the clutter greatly. You can also 'ignore' certain friends who have a habit of posting idiotic nonsense.

Knowing that someone can "de-friend" me is enough incentive to keep me away from Facebook forever.

33. I've been defriended and I've defriended.
I grew up as a bible beater and went to a bible beating college. On facebook, I was found by some of my old church/school mates. I'm a openly gay man and many take issue with that. I don't mind the ones who don't get preachy. All some wanted to do was preach to me. They had to go. I'm now an agnostic some defriended me over that. I also during the 2008 campaign added Hussein as my middle name. Some defriended me over that. I'm much better without them.
