Song (or book, movie, etc) that gave the artist a pass for life
My example would be Mr. Dylan. I'm sure most people would nominate "Like A Rolling Stone" or "Tangled Up In Blue"; I go with "Hurricane." What say you?

He followed it up with other things (most notably Ommadawn), but . . . I mean, COME on, did he really need to?

21. I read that Burgess hated Clockwork Orange, The book that is.
Well, not hated, but was unhappy that this would be the book he's best known for.

And then there's the thing with the two different endings.

Honorable mention goes to his book The Cheese Chronicles, the best book you've never read about a band you've never heard of.

One of the best albums of the 1980s. It puts her personal high strangeness in perspective.

Johnny Cash, "Folsom Prison Blues".

I still miss The Man In Black.

16. Hallelujah and Amen.
I'm one of those strange people who collects versions of "Hallelujah." I'm a total piker with only about 20 or so. There are people who have many, many recordings. And I have to say, Jeff Buckley still makes me weep.

And Johnny Cash has so many I can't say any one would do the trick.

Catcher in the Rye occurred to me as well. Maybe Joyce Maynard's 9-month affair with Salinger when she was a waif of a teenager and he was already an old guy, but that would be disgusting.
