6. WEll, I don't want to get into an argument over licorice or no licorice,
but my real search is for the ultimate combination of texture and flavor regardless of the particular flavor.

The only problem with black licorice, IMO, is that if you admit liking it, everyone wants to trade you theirs and that's all you end up with!

Which brings up the sub-thread, if you like black licorice and the other person doesn't, are you morally obligated to give them a lemon, lime or cherry etc in trade for their black jelly bean?

9. Oh, are you ever in the driver's seat!!!
.
One of the choices from the old C-rations was (canned,
of course) Scrambled Eggs with Ham.
.
EVERYBODY DETESTED THEM!!!
.
Everybody... ... ... ... ... but me. I LOVEDED THEM!!!!
.
So I could trade you my can of Beanee Weenees for your
can of Scrambled Eggs with Ham AND your can of
pound cake or fruit cocktail (culinary GOLD in the field).
.
It was definitely a buyer's market. Or a seller's
market. I don't know. I didn't care.
.
I'm surprised I didn't die of egg poisoning, though.

5. Orange ones and orange ones only. You can't go wrong with that strategy.

7. It is getting easier to find them without gelatin. Go for those.
Why the fuck do we need animal fat in jelly beans? The ones without it are just fine.

12. Yeah, that's true.
Skin, bones, offal, and other animal parts. "Animal fat" is an old but expedient way to describe the skin component, but you're right. It isn't really accurate and DU members are better informed than the general public. I stand corrected.

8. I really like Jelly Bellies...
.
... but they're WAY too expensive for my budget (I'll spend my
"overexorbitant purchase" money on something else, thankyouverymuch).
.
But (at least) one of my local dollar stores sells Belly Flops,
which are Jelly Belly rejects sold at 1/3-1/2 of the normal price.
.
Taste the same. just mutants.
.
. I agree with the Jolly Ranchers choice (figures KALI would go
for those -- probably wondering if her ranch can get some sort of
franchise -- or at least some sort of bargain).
