Most romantic song of all time?
My vote: Annie's Song. I just can't imagine one more honestly romantic than that one. I'm no huge John Denver song, but that song is just sweet and simple and lovely.

Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney is the one that does it for me.

Maybe I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I love you
Maybe I'm amazed at the way you pulled me out of time
And hung me on a line

Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you
Baby I'm a man maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand

Baby I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help me understand,Oooohh

Baby I'm a man, maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand

Baby I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help me understand, oohhh

Maybe I'm amazed at the way you're with me all the time
Maybe I'm afraid of the way I leave you
Maybe I'm amazed at the way you help me sing my song
Right me when I'm wrong
Maybe I’m amazed at the way I really need you

Oh,Oh,ohhh, yeah, oh,oh ohhh yeahh Oo-oo

2. Crazy Love

I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heavens open every time she smiles
And when I come to her that's where I belong
Yet I'm running to her like a river's song
Chorus:
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love

She's got a fine sense of humor when I'm feeling low down
And when I come to her when the sun goes down
Take away my trouble, take away my grief
Take away my heartache, in the night like a thief

Chorus:
Yes I need her in the daytime
Yes I need her in the night
Yes I want to throw my arms around her
Kiss her hug her kiss her hug her tight

And when I'm returning from so far away
She gives me some sweet lovin' brighten up my day
Yes it makes me righteous, yes it makes me feel whole
Yes it makes me mellow down in to my soul

26. I think "Moondance" is much more romantic
Not just the lyrics are romantic, but also the melody. I almost need a cold shower after listening to that one.

6. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" Roberta Flack
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
It would last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face, your face,
your face, your face

7. Turn Around Look At Me....
Turn Around, Look At Me
The Vogues

There is someone walking behind you,
turn around, look at me.
There is someone watching your footsteps,
turn around, look at me
There is someone who really needs you,
here's my heart in my hand.
Turn around, (turn around,) look at me,
(look at me,) understand,understand,
That there's someone who'll stand beside you.
Turn around, look at me.
And there's someone who'll love and guide you.
Turn around, look at me.
I've waited, but I'll wait forever for you to come to me.
Look at someone (look at someone) who really loves you,
yeah, really loves you. Turn around, look at me.

8. For me... it's Leon Russell's...
.
... "A Song for You".
.
"I love you in a place where there's no space and time.
I love you for my life... you are a friend of mine.
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together.
We were alone and I was singing this song to you."
.
Only Leon Russell recording I found was poor quality.
.
Ray Charles will, you know... have to do.
.
Note to self: Listen to much more Brother Ray.

10. Oh, several contenders, none of which are obvious, but which make me hitch and swell a little bit:
Fisherman's Blues, by the Waterboys
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VKouBHarIo

I wish I was a fisherman
tumblin' on the seas
far away from dry land
and it's bitter memories
castin' out my sweet line
with abandonment and love
no ceiling bearin' down on me
save the starry sky above
with light in my head
with you in my arms...
i wish i was the brakeman
on a hurtlin fevered train
crashin head long into the heartland
like a cannon in the rain
with the feelin of the sleepers
and the burnin of the coal
countin the towns flashin by
and a night that's full of soul
with light in my head
with you in my arms...

And I know I will be loosened
from the bonds that hold me fast
and the chains all around me
will fall away at last
and on that grand and fateful day
I will take thee in my hand
I will ride on a train
I will be the fisherman
With light in my head
You in my arms...

Light in my head
You in my arms...

Light in my head
You...

With light in my head
You in my arms...

Brasilia Crossed with Trenton, by Bob Mould
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llOksyhZ8Qg

I walk through the day
Through the open fields
I walk to my truck
To my truck and drive away
To the road
Through the broken roads, trusty road
I was headed for the road
The road that runs that way

And I, I see the train
The trains don't run to Brasilia
I walked through the fields
Through the fields to Brasilia
My ticket stub says I'm going
I'm going to Trenton

When my friends stop by
I try to impress them, no buildings over two stories high
Except my house, oh my my, I see
See crossed lattice work made out of brick
I see buildings
With laundry hanging out of the window
Never in my wildest dreams would I think I'd see
Brasilia crossed with Trenton

When you live in the middle of nowhere
Your imagination runs away and wild
You make games, I make games that I play most once a day
I pretend Brasilia turned to Trenton
Brasilia crossed with Trenton

Department store
The only place that I buy clothes anymore
I used to be a big shopper 'round the world
Big credit cards, they don't matter anymore
'Cause I can't pay any money that I owe
To these cards anymore
They don't take these things down at the bank
They just take money

Imagine yourself in the middle of nowhere
Imagination runs away for a while
I play games about once a day or so
I don't know, that's where I'd rather go
Brasilia crossed with Trenton

I wish that I could tell my story
To all the people that listened to my story long ago
I knew that this would happen sooner or later
That I'd get disillusioned with it all
Just throw my hands up to the sky and say
Oh Lord, what happened, what happened
To make things run this way

Imagine yourself in the middle of nowhere
Your imagination runs away for a while
You learn to play games about once every day or so
I walked to Brasilia crossed with Trenton
Brasilia crossed with Trenton

Wonderin', by Neil Young
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSzjdrKwMuw
I've been walking all night long
My footsteps made me crazy
Baby, you've been gone so long
I'm wonderin' if you'll come home
I'm hopin' that you'll be my baby
I'm wonderin' if I'll be alone
Knowin' that I need you to save me.

I've been talking all day long
To keep my heart from sadness
Baby, you've been gone so long
I'm wonderin' if you'll come home
I'm hopin' that you'll be my baby
I'm wonderin' if I'll be alone
Knowin' that I need you to save me.

I'm wonderin', I'm wonderin',
I'm wonderin', I'm wonderin',
I'm wonderin', I'm wonderin',
I'm wonderin', I'm wonderin'.

Well, I'm knowin'
that I need you to save me
Knowin' that I need you to save me.
Knowin' that I need you to save me.
Knowin' that I need you to save me.
I'm wonderin', I'm wonderin'.

17. Bob Marley: Is this Love
It's a simple song, but very romantic:

I wanna love you, and treat you right
I wanna love you, every day and every night
We'll be together, with a roof right over our heads
We'll share the shelter, of my single bed
We'll share the same room, JAH provide the bread

Is this love, is this love, is this love
Is this love that I am feeling (repeat)
I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know now
I got to know, got to know, got to know now

I'm willing and able
So I throw my cards on your table
I wanna love you and treat you right

I wanna love you, every day and every night
We'll be together, with a roof right over our heads
We'll share the shelter, of my single bed
We'll share the same room, JAH provide the bread

Is this love, is this love, is this love
Is this love that I am feeling (repeat)
Oh yes I know, yes I know, yes I know now (repeat)

I'm willing and able
So I throw my cards on your table
See I wanna love you, I wanna love and treat
You right, I wanna love you, every day and every night
We'll be together, with a roof right over our heads
We'll share the shelter, of my single bed
We'll share the same room, JAH provide the bread

30. Lyrics
I like to read as I .. umm .. listen to me.

:P

Well, if you’re travelin’ in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she’s wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin’ winds.

Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
That’s the way I remember her best.

I’m a-wonderin’ if she remembers me at all.
Many times I’ve often prayed
In the darkness of my night,
In the brightness of my day.

So if you’re travelin’ in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine

35. O Sonho (The Dream)
Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 08:52 PM by Xipe Totec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh9eqhtpXBg

(My favorite song about dreams, by my favorite female vocalist)

O Sonho - The Dream

When one retells
a dream once drempt
one cannot tell all
for dreams cannot be revealed

I drempt
a dream of love,
with a window, a flower,
a fountain and a friend,
and nothing more...
a light, and nothing else...
and love blossomed there

Love,
a love that I keep secret
in a dream I can't reveal
but I feel more strongly each day

Love,
I have a love well hidden
in a dream I can't express
and will keep within me always.

(In Portuguese)

Quem contar
um sonho que sonhou
no conta tudo o que encontrou
Contar um sonho proibido

Eu sonhei
um sonho com amor
e uma janela e uma flor
uma fonte de gua e o meu amigo
E no havia mais nada...
s ns, a luz, e mais nada...
Ali morou o amor

Amor,
Amor que trago em segredo
num sonho que no vou contar
e cada dia mais sentido

Amor,
eu tenho amor bem escondido
num sonho que no sei contar
e guardarei sempre comigo

37. 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain
Ten Years After
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNHqUhGEFZM
I want to know you
I want to show you
I want to grow you
Inside of me
I want to see you
I want to free you
I want to be you
Inside of me
Love me 50,000 miles beneath my brain
Love me 50,000 times and then again

Can you love me with a thousand eyes?
Can you see right through my bones?
Can you kiss me with a thousand lips?
Can you melt a solid stone?
Can you hear me from a thousand miles
When you're screaming at the stars?
Can you pull me up to Jupiter
When I'm all hung up on Mars?
Burn my eyes with your flame
Let your world spin free
Let it go, baby
I'll do the same
All depends on me
Let it go
It's all the same
What with jewels that you can't see
Love me, love me, love me, love me, love me, babe
Bring it on home to me...

peace~

45. For me the most romantic music I ever heard was Ralph Towner's "Beneath the Evening Sky."
No lyrics, but you'd have to have been there, I'd guess.

57. Oh yes.
I know "Love at the Five and Dime" and "Hallelujah"--in fact, the latter is probably my favorite song of all time. However, I've never really considered "Hallelujah" to be romantic--it's more sad and heartbreaking, to me.

59. I've always loved "Harvest Moon"
By Neil Young:

Come a little bit closer
Hear what I have to say
Just like children sleepin'
We could dream this night away.

But there's a full moon risin'
Let's go dancin' in the light
We know where the music's playin'
Let's go out and feel the night.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.

But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.

Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.

and True Love Waits by Thom Yorke. That one is ... well the lyrics are odd, but it works for me. Personal reasons. :)

The Beatles' I Will is another top contender.

80. Seriously, I think 'Could I Have This Dance' deserves a nomination
I'll always remember the song they were playin',
The first time we danced and I knew,
As we swayed to the music and held to each other,
I fell in love with you.

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

I'll always remember that magic moment,
When I held you close to me.
'Cause we moved together, I knew forever,
You're all I'll ever need

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?

Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
Would you be my partner every night?
When we're together, it feels so right.
Could I have this dance for the rest of my life?
