I don't think Jim Bunning should have made the cut for the Hall of Fame |

I have a real hard time supporting a ticket to Cooperstown for a starting pitcher who did not either win 300 games or have 3000 strikeouts. His 3.27 ERA is very good--All-Star caliber--but falls short of the Hall of Fame in my view. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/bunniji01.shtml

1. I think we should filibuster it |
|
And hold up the nomination indefinitely.

Not the normal voting process.

I don't have a heart-felt opinion on Bunning and the Hall of Fame.
I just wanted to say something senatorial.
"Tough shit."
Wow, that felt good!

6. 2 no hitters and a perfect game? |

I hate the guy, but that's pretty impressive.

I suspect if the guy wasn't a US Senator he probably would not be in there at all. Anyhow, if the MLB owners ever need a voice in the senate they can always rely on Jim Bunning.

10. I'd rather have Denny McLain in the Senate than Jim Bunning |
|
which is saying a lot. Im fact, maybe I'll call Bunning's office and tell them so.

11. Mark Fidrych would be more entertaining |

EDIT: I wasn't aware he died. In that case, he'd still be more productive and likeable than Bunning.

12. Yes, Fidrych was a good guy in general |
|
once injuries forced him to retire, he took his money, bought a farm, worked it, and was eternally grateful to baseball for allowing him to have the life he wanted. He, too, would have been better than Bunning.

so he wouldn't have to work as hard as the Ted Stevenses of the world once he got there. :eyes:

13. I hate Jim Bunning the politician, but am quite impressed with Jim Bunning the pitcher. |
|
The fact that he's only one of six to pitch a perfect game and a no hitter is enough to get him into the HOF as far as I'm concerned. Here are some of his other accomplishments:
68th on the all-time wins list.
17th on the all-time strikeout list.
95th on the all-time walks/hits per inning pitched list.
47th on the all-time strikeouts per walks list.
44th on the all-time shutouts list.
54th on the all-time innings pitched list.
When you count the endless thousands of pitchers since modern record keeping began in 1875, I think he's earned his spot in the HOF.

15. 2nd highest strikeout record and a perfect game when he retired... |

I really do un-couple sports and politics (and entertainment and politics). Otherwise, things get so confusing trying to decide who I like and don't like, what movies to go to, etc..
