Deadwood is better than Tombstone |
|
lame copycat. this thread, not Tombstone.
Deadwood, on the other hand, is great.

2. I just watched it recently. |
|
It's like Charles Dickens' Gold Rush, with a little Cormac McCarthy on top, c*&%s^ker.

4. I'm not a fan of westerns |
|
so I didn't watch it when it first came out, plus I was REALLLLLLY BUSY at the time.
but I've been doing work from home so...
I found out I couldn't just "watch" it and do something else. I had to really watch it. And it was so worth it.
So, what's your pretend ending?
Calamity buried on the hill, Al burning down the city in a kill the disease to save the body move for the town...
and hopefully lots more, um, plaster shaking for Alma and Bullock.
I loved the character of Joanie Stubbs, too. she was a complicated woman and real because of it.

6. Al definitely would burn down the town |
|
they were so foreshadowing that with the subplot about the fire engine. Plus, in real life Deadwood burned down several times.
I loved that show. It took me a while to realize how good the last season was. I can't believe they canceled it, that was a complete crime.

5. Agree with the above... |
|
. ... a show inexplicably cut down just as an incredible story line was getting unbelievably incredibler. . I DO think they were trying to set the height of a bar that would last for generations on the number of times "cocksucker" was said per minute. . Part of the show's charm. . . And the doctor was Brad Dourif, one of my favorite stealth actors (was nominated for an Oscar for his very first role -- as Billy Bibbit, the stutterer who was so key at the end of the film). Also played a FASCINATING role as a sociopathic serial killer on Star Trek: Voyager. . Fantastic writing in both plot and dialogue. . Probably closer to what wide-open towns were like than what 99% of Westerns portray. .

7. Oh, yes, the character actors were incredible! |
|
I love that guy too and remembered him from One Flew. He broke my heart in the film. made me cry.
And Farnum!! The toy doc in Blade Runner! and so many other things.
He is the one who always made me think of Dickens.

8. No one took more joy in calling someone a "cocksucker" than Farnum. |

You could hear it in his voice. He embellished every syllable: "CoCK Su-KA".

10. oh, the hernia guy?!?! what was his name? I should look it up |
|
he was hysterically funny to watch.
oh, Con Stapleton?
I thought the stuff with the theater troupe was a little long-ish but I know they were setting up the final season too with that one.
I have no idea where they might have gone with that story.

9. what's also interesting is the idea behind the show about how community is created |
|
I think it's one of the best shows to watch to think about where so many of our current disagreements lie.
...and about realities about the way power operates and what that means for both getting something done and moderating power.
but I surely didn't watch it for that reason.

11. I forgot about the Jewel character. |
|
. One of my favorites on the show -- her relationship with Swearingen was fascinating (she was kinda the old court jester whappin' him upside the head with a pig's bladder every now and then). . And her developing relationship with the doctor -- from doctor/patient to lost souls finding each other. . The writing was phenomenal. .
