1. Depends
Led Zeppelin: They had riffs, but they sucked ASS as human beings. A junkie, a narcissistic hippie diva, a fucking drunken thug and...well, I guess John Paul Jones is OK. But fuck them all, really. Just fuck them all.

Rush: Not that bad. Really. Geddy Lee is never going to win my "favorite vocalist of all time" award.

Steve Miller Band: Two classic albums, Children of the Future (May 1968) and Sailor (October 1968). After that, he began the rapid descent to the worst on your list.

5. Geddy got a lot better when he stopped yelling and started singing
The problem with that, though, is that I think they made their best music to sing to earlier in their careers than when he changed up his vocal style.

6. I think so too. to some extent.
In terms of yelling vs. singing. I really don't like some of their early stuff. I much prefer their more recent stuff. I think with Geddy Lee is a lot of people don't like the high pitch of his voice. Its different and not main stream rock sounding...

9. I like all three of the bands listed in the OP
and as far as Rush goes I like "Distant Early Warning" as much as I like "The Temples of Syrinx." I still crank the shit out of "Working Man" when I'm out cruising through Ohio for my trucking gig, and the first time I heard that song was probably over 20 years ago. I'll take a sceaming Geddy over Coldplay any day.

8. I hear ya
The critics had no mercy for Rush, but you're right...when he started singing, they backed off a bit and started discussing the songs and not the screaming.

Musically, there's a lot going on. Vocally, there are just some days when I can't take that voice.

11. Hendrix was a junkie. So was Janis. So was Jim Morrison.
And so were a lot of other wonderful musicians who actually killed themselves with their drugs. A lot of musicians from that time and even later, when they should have known better than to even start using, are STILL junkies.

Jimmy Page lived through it all. And he's not a junkie anymore. And he's the founder of a great charity that helps Brazilian street kids. Now he's even a big sponsor of a little theater company in London whose goal is to help alcoholics and addicts of all kinds through artistic expression.

Yeah, Plant's a diva. Bonham was undoubtedly an alcoholic. That doesn't mean he was a bad person. It just means he was powerless over alcohol. John Paul Jones was lucky enough not to be plagued by addiction, even though he admits he did the same things as the others. And he seems to be a very nice guy.

17. Yeah they wrote a randian song
Thirty fucking years ago. Of course they are evil! BTW they have one of the most powerful songs about the Holocaust I have ever heard. Gives them a lifetime pass, in my book! Red sector A. None of these other groups have done anything socially relevant as far as I know

23. Yeah I see them on my TV all the time talking about Libertarianism
I know Neil Peart has stated his admiration for it in the past but I know a lot of people who've seen them in concert most of whom are progressives and not one has ever mentioned them being "preachy".
BTW, as far as how they live, none of them seem to get in trouble with the law which for rock stars is something quite unusual. I also appreciate their song Limelight which is a smart look at the drawbacks of fame.
Also--your stfu and play reminds me a bit too much of what people said about the Dixie Chicks for their outspokenness agaisnt Bush...

19. Bonham
Alcohol or not, this is chickenshit thug behavior, and the main reason why I never liked the guy. This wasn't his fight. It was none of his business, although I'm sure there are Bonham apologists out there who write this off as "defending his mates."

Page? Yeah, that was then, this is now. I hear ya.

Plant can still kiss my ass. He's still a sarcastic, self-absorbed little shit.

The Oakland incident

In early 1977, Bindon was hired by Peter Grant on advice from tour manager Richard Cole as security co-ordinator for English rock group Led Zeppelin during their concert tour of the United States. He had previously provided security for actors Ryan and Tatum O'Neal. Bindon took his job to the extreme and developing an addiction to cocaine and heroin, during the tour, much violence occurred behind the scenes directed mostly at journalists, bouncers, and concert staff. The band did not realise the extent of what was happening until their concert at the Oakland Coliseum on 23 July 1977, near the end of their US tour. Upon arrival at the stadium, it is alleged that Bindon pushed a member of promoter Bill Graham's stage crew out of the way as the band entered via a backstage ramp. As a result, tension had been simmering between Graham's staff and Led Zeppelin's security team during the day, and as Grant and Bindon were walking down the ramp near the end of the concert, words were exchanged with stage crew chief Jim Downey, which resulted in Bindon knocking Downey out cold <5>.

Just minutes later a separate off-stage incident occurred. Bill Graham's security man Jim Matzorkis was accused of slapping Peter Grant's 11-year-old son Warren for taking a dressing room sign, and the ensuing argument escalated into an all-out brawl. Led Zeppelin's second Oakland show took place only after Bill Graham signed a letter of indemnification, absolving Led Zeppelin from responsibility for the previous night's incident. However, Graham refused to honour the letter and assault charges were laid against Grant, Cole, Bindon, and John Bonham when the band arrived back at their hotel. The four received bail and later pleaded nolo contendere, receiving suspended sentences. Bindon was dismissed by the band and returned to England. Grant later said that allowing Bindon to be hired was the biggest mistake he ever made as manager.<6>

27. I agree totally about Plant.
Yeah, Bonham was a thug at times. I think he was most likely drinking almost all the time while on the road, though. And I've read that his personality changed drastically when he was drinking and that when he was sober he was a sweet, gentle guy.

Who knows, though. Maybe he was a thug all the time and that was just the PR talk.

18. Rush got a lot better after 2112
It seems their record company told Neil Peart, "if you don't quit setting Ayn Rand books to music we will take away one of your testicles and all your tom-toms."

21. "Worst" and "Rush" always go together.
Zep was great, Miller has a very tight stage band, writes pretty stupid lyrics, but the band can play its ass off.
