I am convinced The Velvet Underground, Big Star and David Bowie invented indie rock as we know it
Think about how many bands followed either VU's or Big Star's lead?

Hell, even Cheap Trick copied Big Star. They were big fans.

Play Big Star's #1 Record and tell me that doesn't sound like most indie music from the 80's, 90's and 00's....

Lots of bands copied them - they deserve more credit.

5. A 1967 album that sounds like it was from 1990
Almost a quarter century ahead of the curve. In 1967, most bands were into heavy blues riffs, not odd tunings, droning guitars, and moody lyrics. An amazing album.

4. Throw in Iggy and you've pretty much hit on it
Possibly the Kinks for Ray Davies oddball lyricism.

The trail runs straiht from the performers you mentioned through the Pistols and Joy Division (who admitted a heavy debt to Bowie) to the present day.

6. I've had the pleasure of being in the same show with him
I was in a different band. Same agent. DMA. I've seen him play more times I can count. Late 60's in Detroit rocked.

10. Nah.
Iggy didn't do a lot of socializing. As a drummer, I was more interested in Scott Asheton. He had a double bass but the left bass didn't have a peddle. It was for show. LOL.
