If you smoke, these things are the best thing since sliced bread. We went to see Avatar tonight (Best movie ever made) and after about an hour, I was starting to get edgy. Took a few hits and had my addiction satisfied and no one was the wiser. After the flick we went to dinner. After the dinner, while waiting for coffee and dessert, when I would usually excuse myself and leave my wife sitting alone while I stepped outside for my fix, I just took a few hits and was good to go. No more standing outside in the rain like a social Pariah. No more sneaking outside during work either. You can smoke these things in a clean room and no one will know.

Whoever came up with this idea deserves to get rich.

1. not to mention when you work at a job with few if any cigarette breaks
you can keep it in your pocket and take a hit whenever you go to the bathroom, stockroom, etc.

17. I don't see Mega Blockbusters as a rule
They suck, and I can read the Wiki article and get the gist

19. I work at a movie theater.
I build and run the movies so I see them for free. But even being free didn't save Avatar for me. I'm a devoted sci-fi fan and the special effects are amazing but they couldn't throw a few more bucks toward the plot? Forget it.

4. Yes, they are great and much cheaper than tobacco cigarettes.
Smokers crave a cigarette to get the nicotine, not all the other crap in tobacco. If you like the tobacco taste you can get e-cigarettes with tobacco flavor.

My 18 year old goddaughter got some for Christmas. I must say that if you don't want to be hassled at all while using one, then maybe get one with a blue glowing tip because otherwise they look pretty realistic with an orange glowing tip and the user exhaling what appears to be smoke but is mostly water vapor.

9. I think it depends on the brand of e-cigarette
With the brand I sell, the charge is supposed to last through two flavor cartridges but for me, it's more like one-and-a-half. I think it's because I draw really hard.

14. Thanks for the info....
...seems like my pal is ordering some for not only herself, but for her son, too, who is also a smoker. I truly hope both of them quit.

6. Could you also PM me or post a link? I'm down to about 5-7 a day
and I'm not quite ready to crush out that last bit. If the e-cigs are less damaging to a body, I'd greatly appreciate any info you have.

TIA for any info or direction to look in!

8. What do you get for $20.00?
Is it the disposable kinds of e-cigs? A kit? I'm curious. :)

If anyone wants to know more about the brand I sell. PM me. :)

What is an e-cig? I suppose I could Google, but I like hearing my DU friends explain things.

11. An e-cig is an electronic cigarette
Edited on Sun Mar-07-10 07:07 PM by blogslut
It's shaped like a cigarette and is composed of parts that screw together. Among the various designs, most of e-cigs have a bottom portion that contains a small rechargeable battery, an LED at the tip and a heating element. The top portion(s) differ. Some brands make a combo atomizer/flavor tip that screws into the base. Others make the atomizer a separate part that screws into the base and the flavor cartridges pop onto the atomizer. With either tip configuration, it involves a flavoring, a small amount of nicotine and propylene glycol. When you draw on the e-cig, the LED lights up, the heating element pulls heat up through the atomizer and turns the flavor/nicotine/glycol mix into a odorless vapor.

12. Interesting. Thanks
I don't know why but anything with an e- prefix means to mean something virtual, online, lol. I couldn't imagine how an "imaginary" cigarette would help anyone.

13. aren't you exchanging one type of risk for another?
Locally they have been banned from being sold because of the health risks.

FDA notified healthcare professionals and patients that a laboratory analysis of electronic cigarette samples has found that they contain carcinogens and toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, an ingredient used in antifreeze.

Electronic cigarettes, also called “e-cigarettes,” are battery-operated devices that generally contain cartridges filled with nicotine, flavor and other chemicals. The electronic cigarette turns nicotine, which is highly addictive, and other chemicals into a vapor that is inhaled by the user. These products are marketed and sold to young people and are readily available online and in shopping malls. They are also available in different flavors, such as chocolate and mint, which may appeal to young people.

The FDA’s Division of Pharmaceutical Analysis analyzed the ingredients in a small sample of cartridges from two leading brands of electronic cigarettes. In one sample, the FDA’s analysis detected diethylene glycol, a chemical used in antifreeze that is toxic to humans, and in several other samples, the FDA analysis detected carcinogens, including nitrosamines.

I take it that there's no secondhand smoke involved.

15. Well since regular cigarettes are found to have a slew of toxins in them...
I see no difference except the smell.

Smokers are going to smoke no matter what, at least with e-cigs I don't have to smell that nasty smoke scent that lingers over someone like a cheap perfume.

I remember being at a bar (before they banned indoor smoking) and this girl sitting next to me was holding her cigarette with her arm stretched out and the smoke practically going into my face. When I asked her to please hold her cigarette closer to her and not in my space the girl's comment "Oh, I hold it like that so I don't have to smell the smoke - I can't stand it". I just looked at her and called her a dumbass to her face - why smoke if you can't stand the smell of it. I also told her to please hold her cigarette somewhere other than in front of my face - I can't stand the smell of it either - which is why I never took up smoking in the first place.

They moved and sat somewhere else.

16. Actually
The diethylene glycol they found came from the plastic in the tips - not the gel/flavor/nicotine combo that users inhale. The PEC leeches out from brands that require the user to use the same tips repeatedly.

20. Once again, it depends on the brand
With the brand I sell, the flavor tips are disposable and should be replaced as soon as they cease to produce vapor. Other brands operate differently and I'll leave it to others to explain how their flavor tips work.

21. I wonder if these e-cigs help stop the smoker from buying the real thing.
I must admit the concept is new to me. I would like to know more about this product.

I was a smoker for years, quit for years. A family tragedy and loss of job has be back puffing away. I admit I am very jittery now and the few smokes I have per day help calm me down. I would love to find a substitute.

And I'll send you a link to my thingy.

If you want to visit a place that discusses all brands of e-cigarettes then go here:

Be warned, the folks on that forum are quite passionate when it comes to their personal "vaping" rituals and brands.
