I hate them more than going to the dentist. I hate arrogant, egotistical, sugeons, I hate case managers who don't seem to give a rat's ass if a patient really has what he or she needs. I hate CNA's who say "I don't know anything." I hate nurses who screw up & screw up & can't get an iv right. I hate cross-contamination & the way so many people who work in hospitals seem clueless about it.
Did I forget the insurance companies? grrr
I feel like, with each passing day my father is in the hospital his life is at risk more than the day he had his surgery. This was my biggest fear for him...and I am helpless to do anything about it.

1. I get a creepy vibe every time I walk into a hospital. Can't explain why. |
|
Thankfully, the only time I've been inside a hospital in the past few years was to visit someone else or because I was delivering there.

After seeing the things I've seen the past week, I will DEFINITELY be taking better care of myself.

I would rather die than go to the emergency room. Although my husband has had excellent care in the hospital. It's just the emergency room that I dread!

Glad your husband got excellent care. He is fortunate.

5. Yeah, they're not pleasant places most of the time, HG. |
|
Even though it's becoming a way of life for me, it can still be difficult to endure the smells, the sounds, the faint creepy scent of despair, resignation, and boredom.
Hang in there. We're with you... :grouphug:

6. Boredom isn't a problem for me... |
|
I wish I could be bored. :-(
The rest...I don't know how you do it.
Thank you.

well.. the jury is still out on that one for me.
I never understood why people preferred to die at home. I do now.

10. As a retired hospital administrator let me advise that you get your father OUT of the hospital |
|
as quickly as possible.
Hospitals will save your life. But they will kill you, too. The risk of acquiring an infection in the hospital--that may be resistant to antibiotics--is not worth staying "that extra day".
And yes, having been a patient, been a hospital employee, been family of a patient, the feeling of helplessness as family is the worst. The best thing you can do for him is to BE there, in the hospital, watching.
Hope that you can get him home, soon.
