Did they forget Farrah Fawcett?
Edited on Sun Mar-07-10 11:00 PM by Lyric
I didn't see her in the montage of Hollywood people who passed on this past year, and she died last June.

Edit: looks like they left out Bea Arthur, too. Weird. Didn't Bea Arthur host the Academy Awards once back in the 70's?

1. I wondered the same thing. Could they have showed her before Swayze?
I didn't see her anywhere else.

And God, wasn't James Taylor awful?

2. They bumped her for Michael Jackson
Edited on Sun Mar-07-10 10:51 PM by gmoney
Seriously, that is a pretty glaring oversight... not that she made a LOT of movies, but she was in a few.

6. Right, but almost all are TV... about a dozen movies in there
I'm not saying she shouldn't have been included. I mean one guy they showed one of his credits was writing for Mr Magoo.

It was just sort of a callback to the way her death was overshadowed by Michael Jackson's death.

8. Yeah but imdb covers television as well as film
If they snubbed her, it was probably because most of her work was in TV. Still, I would have thought that her film work would have been enough to include het on the list.

10. I counted 36 movies, sixteen of which weren't made for TV. Michael Jackson
had maybe five movies, so it's not about industry turf.

4. Heck, "The Burning Bed"
should have put her on the tribute list on it's own. IMO.

not in the theater?

13. True
I guess I figured any list of deceased actors would also include those who had a body of important work (or what I thought was important  ) in television too.

5. I missed about the first three of the montage
because they took so long to get close up. The first I was
able to actually see was Patrick Swayze. Did they show anyone
before him?

7. I didn't see her either.
I thought for a while they were even going to leave out Michael Jackson, but finally they gave him about 3 seconds.

9. Roger Ebert tweeted, "No Farrah Fawcett in the memorial tribute? Major fail."
Jane Fonda asked "And where was Farrah Fawcett? She should have been included" while Roger Ebert tweeted "No Farrah Fawcett in the memorial tribute? Major fail."

12. Poor Farrah... just happened to die the same day as "you know who"
and she's been forgotten ever since. I mean let's get real here, does Michael Jackson really qualify as an "actor"?

18. I liked him in "The Wiz."
And the "Thriller" video is part acting, anyway.

16. He said that he had something in common with the Academy
that in two consecutive years both of them forgot to recognize an accomplished actress. Last year he famously didn't mention his wife Robin Wright in his acceptance speech. I think he was refering to Fawcett.

23. If he was alluding to Farrah Fawcett, he should have just spelled it out.
I think she should have been included in the montage. She was in enough theatrical releases to rate a mention.

25. It's Sean Penn. He never spells anything out.
He has to make a two hour movie showing the dark underbelly of the human psyche just to tell someone he's going to the bathroom.

19. He passed away before last year's Oscars
and received his Oscar posthumously. I am almost certain he was included in last year's "In Memoriam" segment.
