Oh Millie! You make me cry. You sound like my mother. She was a
fly fisher...mainly trout but she fished for river salmon in Ireland. She tied her own flies. She taught all the kids to fly fish. Every year she would count the days to fishing season and then wait until the ice "went off"the lake. Then she would leave me in charge of my Dad and my brothers and she'd disappear up north to fish. It was her solace and her religion.

1. Sorry, I meant to post this under MissMillie's post on fishing.

2. I do admire a woman who fishes.
I also like fly fishing because it gives you something to do and keeps you occupied, even when the fish aren't biting.

You can always try for a better cast and lay it right-in-there, under that overhanging branch, where there's BOUND to be a fish.
:-)

We got no trout down here, but fly fishing for brim and shell-crackers with surface popping bugs is a hell of a lot of fun.

3. My mother used to study the bugs on the water and she also knew
the depths and where the cold spots were...she made a study out of it. I think she liked the solitude.

4. Somewhat related: When I married my Cajun wife...
I thought 'Hot damn! Now I got somebody who will clean fish, pick crab, de-head and peel shrimp, shuck oysters, boil crawfish.'
Her mom did all these things.

She DOESN'T!
:-(

She will clean shrimp.
But not all the rest.

She won't even eat crab (another story) or mudbugs, let alone suck the heads.

I told her I think she was adopted.
She ain't a real Cajun.

In her defense I will say she makes a killer Gumbo and Jambalaya.
:-)

5. Mom cleaned and deboned them. She'd go out at dawn and bring in fresh
trout, clean them and cook them for breakfast. Nothing like it.

7. I didn't mean to make you cry!!!
I'm just itching to get out there an catch some bass. It'll still be a few weeks before they're out and about.

There's something VERY meditative about fishing. You don't think about work, kids, bills,... none of it.

The only thing you think about is.... "Is that a bite on my line?"

God bless your mom.
