I found this out the hard way--seeing a video of myself performing in front of a large audience. I thought swaying my head slowly to scan the audience was an effective way of conveying intensity. Instead, it just looks spastic. Good acting requires less-is-more, but the director's job is to get the performer to do that. This director didn't.
