Why does Facebook randomly suggest people...
if you have no mutual friends?

Every once in a while I get suggestions that seem to be random... some are people I've never heard of, some are people I actually have interacted with online.

It's kinda creepy.

6. That would be very creepy and wrong.
The friend suggestions I have gotten all share mutual friends with me.

2. i'm not on facebook and I get invites from people I've never heard of.
...and, based upon their ideas of who would make me want to be on facebook, I have no desire to be there. I actually was on facebook when it was limited to university addresses, but for work, not myself.

oh, and I found out that over xmas season this year, a couple of people visited my sister that she knew because of me. they told her they had been looking for me online via facebook, etc. and couldn't find me.

I was SO HAPPY to know that... to know that I couldn't be found online by people, or at least some of them, that I never want to see again.

la susta didn't give them information about me - ways to contact me - because she didn't know if I wanted to see them or not (long story behind this that doesn't really matter.) I'm grateful to her for that.

except, by saying all this, I guess you'll figure out that my name isn't really RainDog. oops. :)

4. How does that work?
How do you get FB invites if you're not on FB? Do they go to your email?

5. yes. it pisses me off
I hate data mining.

that's what's going on, with yahoo or google or other email. They actually pick up on keywords in email you send to others and target you. it's annoying, annoying, annoying.

so, knowing this, I sent a REALLY NASTY email to a friend of mine and we waited to see if we got invitations to join weird groups. lol.

11. I got an invite from the exact same person as before.
since the other person was a guy, maybe his emails were better.

18. That's too bad.
I'm starting a Facebook group called, "Let's talk shit about RainDog since she isn't here."
We're going to talk shit about you because you're not on Facebook. We'll also share some recipes. And I suspect Midlo will spam us with Jonas Brothers youtube links.

15. Why does Facebook suggest old enemies?
I don't care if we have 34 mutual friends, some people are shits who I never want to hear from again.

17. Facebook's founder has basically espoused the idea that privacy is passe.
I tried to cancel my account. Turns out, you can only "deactivate" your account.
